So, I fire up the Hemi this morning and I notice that it's spitting oil out of the #3 spark plug tube or around it. I have about 50psi of oil pressure and the beast is running nice but I'm not sure if this is supposed to happen. Now, I don't have any kind of seal on the tube and I took thos wire covers. Is this normal or what? Man, it's spraying a good 3 feet from the engine when I rev it.

Also, This is another topic that is pissing me off. I have a hydraulic clutch/throw bearing and it will not disengage the clutch. It think I might have air trapped in the clutch because the bleed valve doesn't sit on top. Let me know what you think I should do. I'm kinda thinking that I might have to remove the tranny and bleed the while it's out but that would be a serious pain in the ass.

As always, any suggestions are appreciated as I'm about to slit my throat.

havent gotten that far with my hemi yet, but ....

    a book im reading says:

The spark plug wire cover served triple: It hid the wires, kept water out of the tubes and pushed down on the metal rings which in turn helped the gaskets to seal against oil leaks.

To seal the tubes around the holes in the rocker covers, rubber gaskets and metal rings were used.

the picture shows seals on the inside of the cover... wish i could scan it, but i dont have access to one at the moment.

    hope this helps a bit?

book: The complete Chrysler Hemi Engine Manual

maybe post a pic of the setup?

You HAVE to have the rubber seals around the tubes and either the wire covers on, or peen the end of the tubes over the washers so that they compress the seals when you tighten the spark plugs.

If you don't have a 426-style cover over the holes, you should get one ASAP, otherwise crap gathers down there. But it sounds like your spark plug tube seal is bad. From what I've read it's normal for a LITTLE bit of oil to accumulate in the bottom of the spark plug tube, but if it's shooting out obviously the seal is really screwed up.

In any case, you'll definitely have to take the valve cover off, so you might as well do that now and see what's wrong.

BTW, here's what they look like, sort of - http://www.mopartsracing.com/parts/electronic/hemitubes.jpg

The bottom around the spark plug didn't rust out or something.

  5. You already got the scoop on the oiling (of everything the vicinity problem).

On your slave cylinder, try a power bleeded (like for brakes). hook that buggar up and go at it. If air is your problem it'll find it.

  6. I got some 426 wires and boots. The boots are quite a bit larger than the old style spark plug tubes so I didn't want to try and flare the tubes. Instead I whittled some aluminum on the lathe (billet?!) and made some rings that go around the tube and press a seal against the valve cover. I made them so they went down to the top of the lip of the hole on the valve cover and then cut the seals in half so they would fit. When the plug is tightened it makes a great seal and I have a good mounting surface for the boots.
