Does anybody know if there is a Mopar 4-speed that will bolt up to a '54 331 hemi without an adapter plate?
No there is not a mopar 4-speed that bolts directly to the early hemi. If you wanted to use , lets say an 833 mopar 4-speed, you would need a small block mopar bell housing and an adapter to bolt it to the hemi. This would be the same adapter that is used to bolt the torqueflight trans to the hemi. there are several companies that make what you need. This topic has been covered vary well in a recent thread, but its title escapes me right now. Try using the search option or the tech archive.
Thanks for the info Slayer. I did search the Hemi Tech archives but didn't see anything that said for sure whether an 833 would be a direct bolt-up.
Those engines used adapters when new, mating up to their original transmissions. Crank flange spacing won't work without one.
Check this out, maybe it will help you. I'm like you, lots of "Sweat Equity", but not a whole lotta cash for toys.... http://hometown.aol.com/erlihemi/PwrGiant.html
Have you tried this link, Scooter is a good guy and has been building a collection of early Hemi material. If you don't see what you need , try to PM him. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=118607 These are GREAT engines!!!! Luck!!!!
