Trying to find how much a 331 hemi short block is worth. No heads, oil pan, or other parts. Do not know year. It's not stuck.

While we're at it, what does an earlier hemi in the same condition with the extended bell housing go for?

So then post that number, Top front of the block and just in front of the missing intake. We will have more to work with.

I don't have them in front of me at the moment. I was picking up some other parts the other day and the guy mentioned having these. We took a quick peek but I was already running late.

^^^ Are you talking $300-$500 each or total for both?
He mentioned something like $250 each but he seemed open to an offer. He's not into Mopar stuff. I wasn't sure if that was a good price, a great price or too much.

The short tail 331's are probably worth a little more, as these engines had higher compression ratios. The extended bell version is not as valuable.

It's really hard to tell from here. "Not stuck" can cover a lot of ground. Personally, unless he's got a bunch of receipts or will let you get into it with some measuring tools, it's just a core. Also, I would much prefer a short tail, especially if it included some decent heads.

The 331 is a short tail. The extended bell he didn't know the size of.

No heads. He bought an old guy out for the GM stuff. There was a small handful of Mopar stuff in the mix. It was an all or nothing season now he's selling of the non GM stuff.

They only made extended bell engines as 331's.

A lot of the short bell 331's were the industrial hemis.

So, you have a couple of blocks, one 'normal, one extended; how about a crank in each with rods for each? Do these also have the cam shafts?
Please keep in mind as you progress, that although the cranks will physically swap between an extended block an a 'normal' block, you really must not for several reasons.
...making an****umption here as to what is included, $250 each buys you a block, crank, rods, cam core. Not so bad for any of the EarlyHemi engines but you first must identify them for what they are being offered as......

Hahaha....I won´t tell that my good friend who paid 5000.00 Euros ( a bit more than US$ 6000.00) for his badly rusted and stuck ´54 331 Hemi he found here locally... a few weeks after his purchase he came across a "rebuilt and running 354 " for 2k Euros in the classifieds of a Vintage Car Mag... man, was he mad!

I think a short block is worth 350. Rods used go for around 100. Cam core 50 or so. Block if someone needs it 200 even the extended block bottom piece alone can fetch 150. That's what I found anyways. If he's just trying to get rid of the stuff start low n see what happens. Chasing down parts to finish the motors takes time.

    Hello Scott, MickeyC here.
If you are considering buying these
parts for reselling be aware of things.
I think you may find it difficult to readily
locate a buyer? People like Hemis well
enough, but the price of rebuilding and
or modifying Hemis seems to have
    adversely effected the market. The
Hot Heads swap meet sales forum has an
amazing number of parts and engines listed
at any given time. I have offered for sale several
Hemis that I have with little or no interest from
buyers. Just how things appear to me, but I am no expert.

Good reminder on the starter housing. A complete engine is basically useless without the housing.

There is a pair of early (pre 53) Hemi heads, missing the rocker gear, sitting here out in the weather! No one wants these old heads, and with the scrap price down, they are not worth messing with.
They are kind of neat to look at, but I'm not sure I'd have a wall strong enough to hold them as wall hangers. Just because they are Hemi, it doesn't mean they are gold. Gene
