I am pricing new 33-34 rails. I have searched the internet and I have combed through the HAMB (with the search). I have found some good deals, but I am asking the question to the general HAMB audience. I have seen them as low as the upper mid 600's for non boxed rails. Let me see what you guys know - there should be plenty of the "been there - done that" crowd in this topic. Broman wants to get a good idea of what it is going to take to put a roller together. I already have front axle, rear axle, stearing and a few other bits. Now I need to get the back bone for this rig. I've been talkin' art quite a bit lately and I just went through the "First 500 OG HAMBers" post and thought about how I used to talk a lot more shop back then.... ...course I had a car, lol. ~Broman
I'd use VAPHEAD in Colorado, hell of a nice guy, treats customers like friends. Here was a recent post http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=4149716&highlight=rails#post4149716
Check with Jimmy White at Circle City Hotrods. I have it on pretty good authority that he is starting to make frame rails as well. Not sure if they are available yet ???
Nice....that seems really reasonable...and the way it ships seems very slick. So I am just guessing that the rails that I found at the sub 700 price are likey all wrinkled and in need of a lot oc cosmetic surgery.... I would probably forego the hassle and get the Shadows, it sounds like they are the bee's knees. I'd like to find a vendor in Iowa - prefered a HAMBer or (best case scenerio) an Alliance Member. Now it's time for Broman to do a litle research..... Thanks guys - you've been helpful. If there is anything else to look for please speak up. ~Bro
Depends on what you're looking for and how close - shipping is a few bucks. You can call ASC directly and they will sell directly. I've found that rails are something that not many folks make much money on . . . so if you can't find them close to you, call ASC. With that said, I'd always prefer a HAMB brother make some money - hopefully you can find one. I bought ASC and they are pretty good - though you pretty much need a frame jig to get them right before adding all the x-members. I needed to "stretch" them apart in one area of the middle and pull them back in a couple feet forward. I made two sets of "tools" to do this -- big threaded bars to stretch and a chain setup and threaded rods to pull it back in (you won't be able to do it by hand!). I was fortunate to have a stock and mint 34 frame to work from, so it helped.
No worries there. My dad does collision repair and has jigs and frame pullers etc. If he can get a smashed up car to drive straight I think he can help me make a couple of laddered frame rails square. I believe that ASC may have been one of the cheaper sets that I found though they were not boxed. ~Broman
