As noted above I’m trying to install the Flaming River column mounted power steering unit on my 34. Unfortunately Flaming River have not been helpful for doing this on my car.
I am looking for anyone who has installed the above unit on a real hot rod. Not a 200k master piece. I have several questions.
    1. With the flexible couplers installed how do you keep the shaft ridged while measuring for mounting brackets under dash
    2. Anybody got a good mount design and where did you mount it to
    3. Anybody do it on a 30’s Chevy
    4. What flexible couplers did you use
    5. How did you keep the assembly rigid while measuring for mounting brackets

thanks for any help you guys might have
P/s please keep responses to unit in question. It’s not the rack and pinion unit is the unit that goes on the steering column ( Microsteer)

  2. Be prepared, people will ask why you feel the need for power steering.

  3. I use a short piece of 2x4 with a half circle cut out of the middle and a couple of ratchet clamps.

I had both my shoulders replaced completely. Called a Reverse total shoulder replacement. I either get PS or sell my hot rod I have worked on 5 years.

And how exactly will that work in the confines of “ under the dash?? Ratchet straps certainly have there place but not here.

  8. Ratchet clamps, not straps. The little 6" clamps that get tighter as you squeeze the trigger. They also have rubber pads and hold well.

Not a '34, but on my '39 Chev coupe I simply used 3/8" all thread pieces from the dash down to the column to be able to adjust column height until it felt right for my seating location. Then I used wooden dowel round stock that fit into my steering joints to setup where a joint needed to be, and where to add a heim joint to support the shaft. Once it was all setup, I cut up my double D shaft, and permanently made up the steering, sliding my 3/4" heim joints over the shaft on places where I needed support.
Honestly doesn't matter if it's power steering or manual as to how it's setup to steer.

looks like some of you missed out on the fact that he was trying to install an electric power unit in the steering shaft, under the dash. That was his question, how to install that unit. Of course he neglected to tell us about what front end he's using (since it's probably off topic), or provide any pictures so we could see what he's actually dealing with.

My guess is he gave up on us pretty quickly.
