Can anyone tell me what a stripped empty 34 ford 3 window coupe body shell weighs? Thanks for the help
Want to know the approximate weight of only the coupe shell, no interior, no glass, without doors or decklìd. Thanks
Would there really be much difference between a empty shell from a Model A coupe, Tudor , or '32 coupe, Tudor ? Is that info not on the websites from manufacturers of replica bodies ?
I have never weighed a complete body, but here are some bullshit generalities; Two dudes can pick up a body if that is all the guys you have. I have lifted all my bodies from the rafters and I have only dropped one. (operator error.) So based on all that science, I'm going to throw out a total guess, 800 pounds. Good luck and make sure and post lots of pictures. -Abone.
Used 6 people to move mine with doors , rumble lid , glass . I’m guessin as Mr . Flamedabone , says around 700-800 lbs . Just guess heavier , when it comes in lower , you got a deal !
He's asking for without doors and trunk. I'd guess a bit lighter. Also, remind me not to mess with you and your friends, @flamedabone. Both guys lifting and moving 400# each? I don't like trying to get a bare BB up and around, and they are under 250.
If it's a truely naked shell you might be surprised how light it is. I've got a '32 tudor, no wood, no top insert, no doors and I can easily move it and lift each end. On the other hand a friends '34 tudor with doors and top insert had a ton of factory undercoating on the interior panels and 6 of us struggled to take it off the frame. P.S. I'm old. '34's have the welded firewall and if the floor is complete it might be 350# give or take 50#. That's my guess.
^^^^ I'd agree on 350-400 for a bare shell w/o doors, deck lid. I've got a full 34 cowl w/firewall and toe kicks, A posts and I'd estimate it's about 80-100. IIRC, a 4' x 8' sheet of 16 ga. steel is about 75, so that's your floor. Roof is light, maybe 30ish. Pair of quarters and tailpan with all the bracing = maybe 100. That's about 300. Add wood, undercoating, bondo, paint... If you can afford a steel 34 3/window, you can afford shipping!
My brother and I held up shell in my avatar while his son rolled the chassis out from under and placed a couple sawhorses.
Thanks guys for all your help. I think that I'll just put 2 4x6's across the trusses and hang it from there front and rear.
I added some 2x4 bracing to the rafters in my garage to hang my 40 body. Then just a 4x4 across said rafters with a chain hoist hanging from it. When all was said and done, I don’t think the bracing was necessary but it made me feel better about it. I’d guess my 40, with trunk and doors was about 400 pounds.
