Does anybody have experience changing the fuel sending unit to a 6-12V Stewart Warner one, on a original stock 34 Ford gas tank??
I believe i need an adapter plate between 5 holes on the tank and a 6 hole sending unit. MACS is offering the adapterplate, but does it fit and do the job? I also found a SW sending unit with Bob Drake having 5 holes ( see attachment ) Does it fit to my tank without an adapter plate?
My tank is stock original and the SW gauges i want to use are either a Standard series: 120 Ohms +\- 5%
    or Deluxe series: 83 Ohm +\- 5%
Help or advice is much appreciated?

  2. When I put a SW gauge and sender in my '34 I found a real big flat washer at work and drilled it to bolt to the tank then drilled and tapped for the sender. Worked fine but not everyone has like a 2" flat washer.

i wouldnt trust any part from macs especially shipped across the globe, and while drake can make some decent parts, they dont call him "back order bob" for nothing. its an easy thing to make, find a hunk of steel thick enough, and buy, beg, borrow the hole saws you need to make it.

Its obvious there is no such thing as a direct fitting SW fuel sending unit to the original fuel tank unit.
Allright, sounds like its the better choice to do the adapter ring myself, thanks for the advice guys!

What are you going to do for fuel pickup?

I have an original tank with the original "sending unit"/Fuel pickup system. I wanted to keep the fuel pickup and just change to a 12v gauge. What I did was drill a separate hole for the gauge sending unit and used threaded inserts for the screw holes.
