Finally posting some pics. This was in my dad's garage for many years, he sold it, bought it back and again sat in his garage for many years. Never ran, never worked on so I un-buried it and dragged it to my shop before he sold it once again. Sheet metal is just loosely attached to the frame and body without one OEM fastener. Its like someone blew it apart, lost all the fasteners and cobbled it back together. Suspension is all stock, axle is a dana 44. No drive train. So, here are my beginning questions since I've not worked on the 32- 34 Ford trucks before.
    1) I have a grill shell and hood but no radiator. How does the rad attached to the grill shell and or cross member?
    2) Suggestions on aluminum radiators with proper shape and brackets? Don't chew me out, going with a SBC cuz they are laying around my shop.
    3) Cab mounts - I know there should be some wood under it, can someone let me know about the wood and or any other bracketry? The doors sag at the back so before shimming the cab I want the correct pieces under it.
    4) Between the frame and body, body and fenders, bed and fenders etc. are there anti squeak gaskets, friction tape or any type of materiel or is metal to metal?
    5) Suggestions on vendors for sheet metal fastener kits?

The radiator with the correct brackets for the grill shell bolts to the frame (with proper fasteners and whatnot) and the shell fastens to the radiator.
As for the rest of the missing fasteners I'd say the "i'll buy new" syndrome plays big there.

  4. Yes, you need those radiator brackets ,make sure they are for a pickup, not a car.
BTW, go over to the FOrdbarn and search for the posts on the wood mounting blocks. There are several posted photos on there that show them and how they are used.

Ordered the cab wood kit from Joe's antique auto parts for $135. Mac's (now Ecklers) was like $170... I'm not happy Ecklers bought Mac's. Bunch of monkeys humping coconuts over there. I'll check out CW Moss for hardware.
Any suggestions on aluminum radiators or the what materials if any, go between the fender and the bed and front fenders to frame, cab and running boards?

Gulp! $1430 is outa my range.

  8. Well look at Speedway's aluminum radiators, might be more in your range.
Fender welt goes between the fenders and other body parts. You can get it in colors if you are of that taste.

  9. you can get away without fender welt, my pickup hasnt had any for 30 years and many drag strip passes and has held up fine and no real squeaking. Only the brackets are the critical thing for the radiator and grille shell. As long as they are for a pickup, you fine. The shell is just bolted to the radiator, the radiator is then bolted to crossmember on special bolts with springs.

Then as far as mounting a small block chevy in, measure alot because you can stick it in there without having to modify the firewall or radiator. It is tight, as my 33 pickup here shows it, but it can be done.

Thats some precise packaging you got there! Thanks for the pic, helps me visualize what i need to do. What valve covers are those? Been thinking about looking for a similar set.

  11. Yes, just the brackets are different between car and pickup/truck. I have helped my grandpa with this swap before on one of the various pickups and the few coupes we have had, but that has outlet on the bottom on the wrong side for a SBC, but a local shop can swap it.

They are just some generic ones I bought at a swap meet years ago. No name anywhere on them, but quite a thick casting all throughout and my roller rockers clear.

Can't go wrong ordering from Joe's. As far as a radiator goes you have 2 choices, IMO. Aluminum or Brass/copper.
Aluminum will be cheaper and there are various levels of quality available. Or top of the line brass/copper. As you found out they are pricey and order times are weeks if not months. Given you are in Carson City you might check out Brassworks in Paso Robles, CA. Figure over a grand but it will fit and cool. And you could make a road trip to the central coast of CA to pick it up in person to save shipping costs. While you're there you could continue over to the coast and get a bowl of clam chowder and a cinnamon roll from Old West Cinnamon Rolls in Pismo Beach.

Was that a stock color combo? Gray body, black fenders? Cuz that's what mine is now that you have brought it to my attention. I thought it was a Heinz 57 mix and match.

Not sure. I've seen a few different color combinations on '34's.

I ordered an aluminum radiator for my '48 with Olds engine from an Ebay vendor. I was able to specify the size. Measured accurately and they sent the correct size. It cools well. If you have the shell, you can get pretty close on the measurements. Check some of the vendors for a size chart. Mine turned out to be the same size as a '56 Chevy V8 If I remember correctly. Dont remember the vendor I used tho.

Hey been looking around at radiators, most don't specify truck, just 33-34 Ford. Are the truck and car rads the same? The grill shells are totally different so that would be a surprise.

  24. Yep they are the same, just change the radiator shell mounting brackets. I have a 34 Walker car radiator in my truck.

Nice look truck and project. A 1932 truck or passenger radiator would work and more plentiful and maybe cheaper. The 33-34 truck grill shell is closer to the 32 passenger or truck . The difference is the 33-34 truck is slanted back a few degrees. It is a bit thicker so some modifications may be needed like a shim to tip it back and modify mounting brackets

My '34 had a cut down shell and I was running a '65 mustang radiator in it the top of the radiator cleared the underside of the shell about 3" so you could get the cap off and fill it. Ran 180° all the time. 20190219_155046_HDR.jpg
