My little bro asked me today if I want a 340 Buick- running, good oil pres- and a 394 Olds- apart but good- with tranny. I can probably give him a hundred bucks for both. My storage space is really limited so If they aren't worth hanging on to I need to let them go. How hard is it to find a tranny for the 340 Buick? Brad

Don't quote me on this, but I *think* the little 340 is standard BOP bellhousing bolt pattern. Not sure, haven't done a ton of research on those.

Thanks guys. I wonder if the auto trans with the 394 is standard BOP? These are probaby very elementary questions but I'm a Ford dude ya know! Brad

'49-'64 Olds V-8 bellhousing is the same bolt pattern and used 3 different auto trans in that time period;1.hydra-matic ( www.rodnkustom.com/rocketeers/hydramatic/index.html ),single and dual-range,the only automatic any good for hi-po stuff, you'd need the lower bell and starter from a '49-'55 to make it work 2.the controlled coupling or "jetaway" '56-'61 junk IMHO 3.'62-'64 roto-hydramatic another piece of crap.don't know nuthin' 'bout manuals, they're out there somewhere, but the bits and pieces are pricey and rare-george
