does anyone know the specs for the 345 hp desoto cam ? i tried keyword and google with no luck. i want to regrind my 341 cam to 345 specs. thanks
I can't answer your question, but it's probably very similar to the 300 cam, and very mild by modern standards.
Yeah, not sure you would notice much difference. Cam profiles in the 50's were pretty mild. Are you looking at a restoration or a hot rod? .
I'd look up the 354 300B or Dodge D501 specs, especially the intake installed CL, the LSA and the intake to exhaust bias, and get a more modern grind with the same duration figures, faster acceleration rates, and as much lift as you can.
Have you checked the part numbers yet? Since the differences between the 341 and 345 (other than intake) were pretty minimal, I would wnt to make sure the cams were actually different before deciding on a plan of action.
Contact Chris Neilson @ Neilson Cams in Colorado. I don't know what the specs are, but the cam in my 345/345 has a definate lope to it at idle. I bought it NOS and the lobes aren't as "peaky" as a 330/341 cam...
345: Thanks for that info! So, it sure sounds as though the 345 cam had more lift, duration -- or both!
Frankie, Really no reason to grind a cam or take one back to original specs today because cam technology has come as far or farther than any other aspect of engine development. There are multiple early hemi guys who will do a new cam grind for your 345 depending on what use you are going to put the car to - resto, street or race or combination. Talk to HotHeads Racing or talk to Ed Petrus, the '57 DeSoto guru for cam grinder suggestions. And with your low number of posts, welcome to the HAMB.
The ONLY option availible for a DeSoto cam is a regrind, or Donny Johansen at Chet Herbert. There is an extensive Post on this. I searched for the better part of a year, every day, for a source that would grind a new cam from a blank. LOTS of places will...however none can/will provide a DeSoto blank, and that's the Show Stopper. I finally located a new, unused roller cam from Racer Brown for the DeSoto engine I just built. The Stock NOS 345/345 cam for the engine in my Avitar came from Chris Neilson...and there ain't no more. He is supposedly coming out with cams for the DeSotos, but that's been in the works for years. Again, give him a call...
Hey George, just think what could have happened with one of our modern profiles..... News flash...an announcer at the Barrett-Jackson auction said that the 57 corvette was the first car to have 1 hp/in...... what a clown. And, yes, we also grind cams. Thanks for asking. Gary
