Hey everyone. New guy here with a question...go figure right? Anyway I am about to start building a "nostalgic" deuce roadster highboy and am looking to do something a little different motor wise. I have a 348 tri-power sitting on a stand in the garage that just needs to be freshened up and I am wondering if this is a good choice for me? Will it be reliable for long trips? Will it fit under the hood? I have moved the front crossmember forward 2 inches facillitating the purchase of a 2" longer 4-piece hood that I really want to use....if for no other reason because if what I had to pay for it. Can I stuff this neat old engine under the hood? I plan to run a tremec 5-speed so that freeway blast won't run this old girl to hard. Any advise or opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for having me!

348's are great rod engines, but I wouldn't put the hood sides on....let the peasants admire a real engine!

  4. Okay, get ready, cause I am going to give you some noise. Keep the 348 on the stand. I like 348s and 409s on engine stands, because they look pretty when they are all painted and dolled up.

if you want to know how reliable that 348 is head over to 348-409.com. no shortage of opinions there. i`ve got the same motor, dare to be different! p.s don`t use the f (ford) word on that form.

im thinking about putting a 348 in my 49' Ford. i have a 6 deuce intake for it, and a 6 speed tranny to go behind it. as far as the cool factor its there and to pop a shoebox hood and see that motor stuffed in the engine bay is priceless!!

I ran a 348 tripower in a 56 BA Htp in 68 as a newbee mechanic. The carbs were new when I got the donor (a smashed 55BA htp) and that 56 was insanely reliable.

in 72, there was a 32 primer unfinished 5w sitting by the road in Chepachet Rhode Island on rt 44 with a 409 6x2.....for...$400.... That image is still in my head....if it had a sbc, I sure wouldn't remember all the details :)

Leave it on the stand? I think NOT

I just picked up a 348, and a 6x2 manifold, and some stock chrome valve covers.... we will see what i find to use it in. My 32 project is already committed to a Rocket.
