348 in a first gen Corvette????

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Kustomman#1, Oct 25, 2010.

  1. In a sense building a perfectly period correct rod or custom is a form of restoration. At least it takes the same discipline.

How many '55s were built with a 6, the selling point was the more powerful SBC. I'm just curious on that one.

But you are right restoration in the strictest sense is an affront to hot rodding and everything that we stand for.

I personally just don't like the way they look.

Damn I love this new stick.

Actually Kustomman #1 more than has the skills he was just looking for the pitfalls before he started the project. Not a damned thing in the world wrong with that. Its called planning in some circles.

I don't think I would bother sugar coating anything BTW. But I'm special.

Yes,and building a traditional hot rod and ignoring all the vast improvements in performance of modern engines and suspensions could be considered like a restoration.:D

  3. Hey no fare agreeing. Where's the drama in that.

OMG does this make me a resorer?

There were 700 '55 Corvettes, and probably not more than a dozen were 235 powered. They were most likely rebadged '54s that were still hanging around at G.M.

Shaggy, This would'nt be the TWO single headlight model Vettes in a self service storage enclosure yard just off Evergreen Way? If not, see me about them; they've been there for YEARS! Butch/56sedandelivery.

I've posted this before; in the late 80's/early 90's, there was a Bracket Car at Bremerton Raceway running a 409 motor. It was a 67 or 68 Camaro, and was a local car. It remains the strangest combo I think I've seen. Butch/56sedandelivery.

Well there's the "R word" that so many on here think is mindless and boring...restoration. Y'all might wake up some day and see that you too are restorers like 'beaner said. So why bring up the R word here? Considering that a well restored 55 Vette can fetch up to or indeed well over $200K, why wouldn't it brought up? That said, then even a project car has high value. Does this mean the OP has to restore it? No but it's worth asking in any mature and dedicated discussion about significant cars and mods.

Hey, can I put a 348 in my 41 Packard 160? Of course I can. I'd lose all the value of it's "1 of 2 known" status. Is that a lot of value? Not really but it has enough value on it's own merits that if it were 1 of 100 I still wouldn't do it. Why take away what makes it unique on it's own? I can chop it, french it, pearl it, add some tuck n roll too. 41 Ford? No question. 55 Belair? Is it done yet? 55 Vette? As a professional and true enthusiast, I'd say you just might want to think about it for a min. Again, it's all yours now but I feel better knowing we talked about value too.
