I have a friend that is building a 348, he has a '58 block and a set of '59 heads. We have been told he can not use the heads because of some mis-match problem, the guy doesn't remember what is different, only that they are different. Is anyone out there saavy in these enough to inform us of the difference, if any? Thanks
Not positive but I believe 58 heads did not have cooling around the spark plugs. Had a special head gasket also.Might be a way to make them work. I'll do some checking.
Hey guys, I moved your replies to the 348 wanted ad in the classifieds to here so you will get the info you are looking for. RASHY
Good for Rashy! I just adopted these lonesome buggers. I think these are later 60s style engines................so I'll be stalking this thread for ideas and suggestions. I think from what I remember, I can stuff the later engines with 409 guts?
It would help to know some casting numbers. I am currently running a 011 block, early 58/late 57 casting date, with 379 heads and no problems what so ever. I also use the stock tri-power 280 hp cam, instead of the stock 4BBL 250 hp cam. Hope that helps.
thats the rumor... i know that there was a sweet "W" motor thread goin here for a while, but i'll be damned if i could find it
Just weld up the one coolant passage at the spark plug as this was done all the time back when when guys would use 409 heads on early 348 blocks......
Ahhhhhhh Fiddy! How I missed you! Now find that thread damnit. I expect to see a linky and various rude pictures later.
Go to 348-409.com Those guys live these engines. Currently I am building a 348 stroker. 348 engine with a 409 crank. Good luck.
