Projects '35 Dodge Brothers KCL 1/2T Commercial Pickup

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Samster, Oct 14, 2010.

  1. Love these trucks..I had an old green early 36, 1/2 ton...had 35 fenders and grille shell. I ran into some problems and had to sell it. The new owner built a new chassis from box tubing and didched the fenders...they were really bad anyway...the back halves of the rear fenders were entirely gone! Fronts were split, bashed and also had pieces missing...weird since the rest of the truck was pretty nice!

    kicking this back up again..

I'm eagerly awayting a big box of parts from jackhammer speedshop, that contains about everything I need to rebuild my engine..

been studying a lot, and have done some work on the 59..

bought a dual Offenhauser intake ..

also today I joined the alliance..
some pics of my latest movements

the engine on the stand, here with the borrowed Edelbrock super dual.

I found a great link to rodsandcustommagasine about an engine rebuild, also bought the Ron Bishop booklet..
Any other tips or trics on the rebuilding would be greatly appreciated, I'd love to have the engine running in a week or two..

    cheers from Belgium,
    Samster

I must have missed this post! sorry for that

but that one would have the round curves as the black one above here then?

the fenders I would need have the wave left to right, but holes or totally dust-parts wouldn't matter..

the tears in the ridge is all that needs to be there :D

Ok! Got me 4 '33 Plymouthfender in more or less th same state as te car ! Came off a sedan, so the rear ones will have to be reworked to the vertical side of the bed, . It will take some weeks to get them to belgium, but i'm happy as a kid! Cant wait to mount them, and finally the front will have its great 'flying carpet' back!

saterday my fenders should arrive, but I'm gonna start on building up the engine.. the flatheadsound should motivate to do the work on the chassis then ..

so what you guys think? left-set, or right-set for my ratty flathead??

    cheers!

put on somekind of rustblockfor Belgian conditions,
a lot of denting-out to do, but it looks great

that grille just screamed for the fenders

  19. I will be glad to see this one done. These must be kind of rare because I have hardly ever seen any at the local shows. I have one tucked away in a barn for a future build so I would love to see you finish this one.

that makes two of us then!
I never saw one in Europe on shows or articles or anything..

    is yours a 34 or 35?
there seems to be a lot of small modelchanges in those years,
one guy in south holland has a 35, with round corners in the front window, like mine, but a different front (no more mustache)

hope to get her ready by springtime this year!
thanks for replying, and cheers from Belgium!

started hammering out the dents.. not a standard job, since I can't grind the surface (to keep the rust)
the lead hammer does the trick just fine..
the more I look at the fenders the bigger they get, like enormous flying carpets..

gotta give credit to the sheetmetal, it is completely tensionless and does exactely what you expect it to do.
and those adorable details, like the wheelside ridge with the string of loose metal in it, you can still see the handwork's details of the thirties

That's going to be one good lookng truck! I'm glad you're using fenders, they have great styling.

  23. I had the exact same truck. Mine was titled as a 36. I believe it was an early 36 dodge as most photos of 36 dodge pickups show a rounded 37-style grille and pontoon fenders. Sorry, I don't have a photo of it.
Love the looks of these pickups!

  25. Mine is a 35 with the later style front opening doors but the earlier style front sheetmetal like yours.

 wowlaah! that's a nice one!

compared to this, mine will always be more like 'thrown together'
As far as I can see it is the same combo of pieces, the doorhandle looks different and there's no winged logo on the grille..

and perhaps most important, it still has it's original proud height!

thanks a lot for the picture!

  27. Someone took the winged logo off of the grille. I would love to find one but the ones I find are too expensive for just a grille ornament.
If you need any more photos of any thing in particular let me know and I will try to get it to you. Its stored in another state but I go there often.
You will finish yours before I even get to mine, so good luck, I will be watching your progress.
