Hi, I am buying a 35 Ford pickup that has the original rear end in it and I would like to swap out this rear end for one from a 1995 Ford Explorer because it is a good one to use and it also has disc brakes. The overall length from flange to flange is 59 and 1/2 inches.
If I put this rear end under the 35 truck will the wheels stick out and if so what are my options to correct this so they don't stick out?
Also should I get the springs that were used with the Explorer and use them on my 35 truck.
I know you guys are the experts and that is why I am posting on here.

    Thanks in advance,
    Wade

  2. it depends on what size and offset wheels you plan on using , but i think 59-1/2 is a bit wide. 58" wide seams to work out best for `35-`40 fords

  3. Well, if you like bodywork, you could always do this. I widened these rear fenders 1 1/2".

  4. 36-3window is right. 58" seems to be the right width. 10 bolt, 8.5 rears out of Camaro's, Nova's are very close in size, Early Broncos, although getting hard to find are a great alternative too. Chassis Engineering makes a parallel leaf kit for the rear that has everything you need for a seamless install.

I take it that you'll be switching transmissions and adding disc brakes to the front as well.

Stock '40 Ford is 59 1/4", Do not think '35 would not be much different since they are the same frame. I used a Ford Granada 8.8 rear end in a '40 pickup with a CE rear leaf spring kit, and 1/2" lowering blocks. I used 8 1/2" x 15" wheels with 235/75 tires. I had to use 1/4" spacers on the wheels because the tires would barley rub the bed side on turns. the truck rode really good. The CE kit was real easy to install. With a 59 1/2" rear you will probably have to use wheels that are the same width as the stock ones.
