I'm just starting in on a chopped 35 ford pickup build, and I'm not really sure of which way to go with the frontend. I'm trying to go with an old school, traditional look and want to get it low. I'm a bit new to the specifics of early fords. The 35 frame that I'm using has had the center part of the X-member cut out. If I understand correctly, this is where the wishbone would mount. I looked at the repair pieces that Precision Coachworks has, but they don't have a piece for the center of the X-brace. Is the best thing to do to try to repair this section of the frame with a donor X-brace and run an unsplit wishbone, or should I just split the wishbone and go to the inside of the frame rails? I don't have any of the frontend parts yet, so I can go with whatever year parts would be best. I've read that the 37-40 wishbones will make the front sit lower than the 35-36 wishbone. Would the best thing be to go with a 40 dropped axle and wishbone to help get it lower, or is sticking with 35 parts better? Is there any downside or benefit to moving the spring to the top of the axle instead of leaving it in the front?
2 options 1 Ch***is eng has a x brace kit that has a ****** mount and split wishbone mount http://www.ch***isengineeringinc.com/page60.html http://www.ch***isengineeringinc.com/page66.html If you have acess to a stock x brace you can use that and stock unsplit bones, which are better than split...i have a 38 Ford stock axle with unsplit bones and a reversed eye spring on my car now and it rides real good... a dropped axle will lower it more than mine, not that mine is real low. If you could find a 37-41 axle and bones that would work real good.
