Thats a lot of abuse, since the intake is off how about pulling the lifter for a looksee at it and the cam lobe. Odd that the pushrod broke and in more than 1 place. All this from a screw holding a breather, is it a stamped steel cover that would flex or a cast aluminum thats more rigid?
Thanks Oj, it’s aluminum cast. Changing all the pushrods with ones I got from you. Don’t trust them now. I’ll take a look at the cam too
dang it .....havent been on the HAMB for a few days and i see this . i feel bad , i could'a fed ex'd a box of pushrods for you to sort thru.
Update, pulled the lifter, looks fine. Looked with a flashlight at the cam, it looked fine as well. Dressed the end of the valve as well. Intake is reinstalled, torqued. Thanks everyone for your advice, pretty straightforward from here
Sorry to hijack your thread, but you were lucky! but how long you had that 290 hp crate motor? I cant find one anywhere. anyway keep us posted!
I’ve had for about 5 years but just got the coupe running last summer. Has about 500 miles on it. Don’t think Chevy is selling these anymore
Don't feel bad, I have a 330hp 350 still attached to the skid, been there for quite a long time(+10 years?) I turn it over every month so that the rings don't get stuck.
I was thinking the same thing. Have seen plenty of bent pushrods, but have not seen one snap like that in two places. Looks like a brittle failure. I guess those pushrods are hardened and perhaps not tempered as much as the ones I use. Cheers, Harv
Why, I believe a Good Welder could fix that pushrod for you in a couple of minutes and probably wouldn't charge you much either.
Bad luck, or thought there was enough clearance. A flat head machine screw with and sunken Allen head would have made it I guess.
I was fixing something that wasn’t broken, there was really no need for the lock washer I added over the winter that pushed the head into harms way. It wasn’t even loose !!
After I got done with the grinder, you wouldn't be able to tell the one I welded up from any of the rest.
Update, replaced all the pushrods and adjusted all the valves. Put everything back together and it fired right up . Thanks everyone for your help Just wanted to tie this up and not leave loose ends !
