350 HEI Identification

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by nate, Jul 24, 2009.

  1.

The engine in my truck is a 73-74 350 with an HEI that was probably added later.. I need a new vacuum advance for it but the parts guy wants to know what the distributor is from.. how can I ID it?

  2. the first vacuum advance i would look at would be from the exact same truck you have except use 1975

  3. Oh, I should add that the truck is a '46, so the engine isn't necessarily a truck engine. Is there any way to id the distributor on it's own?

The difference in the vacuum cans is the amount of advance and when they activate. Buy an aftermarket adjustable one from Summit. They all interchange physically

On the skirt of the aluminum base a GM p/n usually starts with 111 ...also check the advance weights for wear on the pins

That D should be a number, which would be the last digit of the year it was made. L 1 would be December 1st.

Didn't see that dist number in the Std Ign catalog.

I second the adjustable unit suggestion...

  8. sounds good, thanks for the help guys!
