Getting ready to do this swap, anyone know of any problems? Will be running a toploader, so I am not to concerned about that end of the swap.
Dead simple swap. Here in Oz we make adaptor to utilize standard Cleveland engine mounts. The top loader may or may not line up with your rear crossmember. You will need a new tailshaft. The good thing about the Cleveland swap is that it looks like it was made for it. There may be an issue with clearance on your steering box to exhaust manifold. If you are using 4v exhausts it may be tight. The Oz 2v exhaust manifolds exit out the back similar to windsor manifolds. Headers will pose problems with clearance. Regards
If the cleveland is the same block as a windsor you will run into clearance issues if you use the anchor brand mounts that are listed here in the forums for SBF swaps into a ford. you will also need a front sump oil pan. you'll have to notch the engine mount holes on the frame. but things still get very tight.. especially drivers side exhaust manifold. i went with an early 80's f150 manifold because it's slimmer. but if you're doing headers you'll have no issue with hitting the steering box.
Headers with no clearance issues? Hmmmm, I have a set from a 70 ranchero, I'll need to check. Right now the plan was to use manifolds. I have a set I have been grinding the ribs off of to make sure there is clearance. My motor mounts are factory Fox body 5.0 mounts. I am going with 2v heads. I was hoping the fit may be better than a Windsor engine since the exhaust exits at an angle rather than from the side.
Let us know how the Ranchero headers fit, I was also going to use stock manifolds on my 351C powered '55 but if the headers fit I might have to get a pair.
