Anyone running a 351W in a 30 Coupe on 32 rails. I have the motor mocked up and looks like I'll have clearance problems (radiator side). I switched to the shorter Ford water pump and it saved me some room up front. But the mechanical fan is definately too low. I know Zips makes a water pump riser for SBC's. Anyone know if someone makes one for Fords? Anyone runnig this combo got any pointers? Any other problems I'll run into? I'm really tired of driving my girls 4runner!!!! Gotta get this thing running!!!

the windsor is just as common in A models as chevs here in Australia, but the length is an issue. there are a few places here that manufacture these plates that you bolt a holden ( gm) 6 cylinder water pump to, to shorten the overall length. you should be able to make it out from this photo.

I know you might be thinking that the water pumps might be an issue for you to get, but you can buy them on Aussie ebay so no hassle and their cheap!

the kit goes for $175 aussie which is about $120us plus postage. solves all problems, a very common thing to do here.

  3. I know plenty will say you should run an engine driven fan, but...

I've got a W in a 32, no engine fan, just a 14" electric mounted @ the top of the radiator on the engine side, which clears the water pump pulley easily. Edelbrock water pump. I've always found W's run pretty cool, and with my fan set to come on at 210 degrees, well it hardly ever does. Only when sitting at lights for ages or in bumper to bumper in mid summer etc.

Thanks guys!!! I'll definately look into the aussie set up. I really appreciate the help. I have been considering the electric fan. But, as much as possible I would like to run a manual fan.

Flatoz if you have any other pitures I would really appreciate your help.

Same with my channeled '34. Electric fan set at 200;180 thermostsat and it runs below 190 most of the time. I got stuck for an hour in 90 degree temps last summer in bumper to bumper and the engine never ran over 210. Get a good electric fan and you're all set.

    Flatoz,

Thanks a million for posting the pics!!! One more question on the adapter plate. Does it also move the fan location up some??

it shortens the overall length of the motor about 1" or even some more, great for putting a windsor in an A model.

I also am running a 302, but previously a 351W in a model A on deuce rails. I couldn't find an adaptor to raise the fan ,which is available for the SBC, so I had to go to an electric fan. In order to get the mechnical fan at the right level you have to move the engine up high in the frame which I didn't want.
BTW, the electric fan works great.
