Once you pull the rocker trim, the front clip can be removed as a single chunk. Very tough alone, but with a couple people, it is manageable. Fender bolts at the bottom, at the top by the door, then pull the bumper and the bolts under the radiator are of the front bulkhead. If the hood hinges are on the firewall, leave it. If they attach to the inner fenders, pull the hood. Don't forget the wiring on the left inner fender.
Makes pulling the engine MUCH easier.

It sounds like it will need to come apart anyway, so pull the engine and pull the heads and the pan to look it over. You could get it to turn over and do more damage, like having a valve stuck open and bending it when the piston hits it. Cutting corners usually costs you more money!

Should look pretty cool in a 47, although a tight fit.

I installed Joe Reath's old record setting 331 Hemi in my '46 Ford coupe. Wall-to-wall Hemi. Very tight fit in front.

Yes, modification will definitely be necessary. I'm gonna have to extend the fender wells out each an inch. As well as modify some space for the torqueflite. It'll all be worth it in the end though.
