Picked up a 354 Marine unit and plan to install it in my 56 F250. Looking to see what trans works best. I know there are chevy and pre 53 ford trans adapters available. I have a Ford T89/ R11 OD unit. Perhaps that is an option. Will it hold the power is another question.

    Wish to retain manual
Also wish to retain column shift. Understandably, I will need to fabricate some linkage.

    Thoughts...

Not sure when I will get to this. Current setup in truck works great. Just trying to gather some ideas.

are you sure about that T89/R11 OD? I am thinking perhaps incorrectly) that the T89 is the standard duty trans and is usually paired with the R10 OD, not the heavier duty R11. The T85 HD 3 spd manual trans is the more common application for R11 OD units. It can be identified by the downward curved lower side cover flange and is the basis for the old T-10 4 speeds. If you have a T85 instead of a T89, it would be a pretty good choice for your hemi if you want to use as much of what you have on hand instead of buying more parts.

You are correct, it is the T 85.
