Very cool metal forming in pic number one. This car will be a real good one.

Steeled out the rear tub last night.

I have decided to put the parcel shelf from the sedan back in as it will give me more room in the boot as well as somewhere to latch the seat and mount seat belts anchors.

I know that original phaetons did not have this, but I am not sure what was originally used to latch the back rest of the seat. I haven't seen an original one apart to have a look.

Just wonder if you have enough built to try slamming a door to see if the quarter panel flexes a lot?

I went nuts tring to get my 32 Nash 2dr conv sedan to feel solid. I have long doors and I went from mostly missing wood framing to steel. I had to build a double walled rear quarter frame just like it must have had in wood, because the folding top irons go in between. The car finally got solid when I put the last piece in. I was lucky, I guess.

Already have the burst proof lock in the drivers side, shuts fine. Did have to make a brace at the bottom of the rear door pillar from 1/4 plate, but you won't see it when trimmed.

    Hi all

Couple of photos of the engine for you. Engine is an 8cm Mercury.

Found the engine in a barn about 2 hours from my place whilst buying some parts for my Customline.

Engine has been completely rebuilt, bored 40 thou, crank ground, adjustable lifters and all the usual tricks to make it perform a bit better.

Engine was built by Eric Worner, who races an old open wheel race car powered by a Flathead with a Riley four speed gearbox. Eric is the current holder of the Fastest Flathead trophy from the day of the drags held in Sydney. At age seventy he also one the trophy for fastest reaction time (0.00).

I have decided to run the original mercury heads as I really like the painted look and everybody has finned heads now. Engine will also run single carb, although it is a 2 jet Rochester of a small block Chev. I am using an air cleaner of a 56 Customline that has been modified to fiit over a standard aftermarket air cleaner. Distributor is Mallory.

I have modified a pressed steel bellhousing from a 49 Ford to mate a four speed gearbox from an aussie Ford Falcon.

    Can't wait to hear it.

found this one on RM Auctions website. It goes up for auction this week, expecting $60,000 to $80,000 but no reserve. Looks like a good conversion to 2 door. According to the write up it was convered in about 1975. I had never seen it before, looks great.

you are right, thats one of the reasons I wanted the duvall style screen, lowers the roof about 2 and a half inches.

    Hi guys

It's been a while, I have been working to finish off and organise my shed a bit, so I havn't worked on the car for over a month.

Got back into it today. Boxed in the rear panel above the parcel tray, finished the reveal on the top of the L/H Quarter panel and started welding up the quarter.

Also got some seats from an early Ford Escort 2 door a little while ago, so I made a mount for the seat with a storage box in it. Seats tilt forward to allow access to back seat.

Seriously inspiring work Blackroad. I have a reasonable mechanical background but am often envious of what a good metal man can achieve, as you have. Keep up the good work and keep that ANZAC flag flying.:)
