Very cool build and like what you did with the inside of the doors for bracing. I might have barrow that idea for my 3 window build. Keep the updates coming.
Here is an update. Didn't do anything last week, wasn't feeling to good. Got back out in the shed today. Still finishing up L/H Quarter panel, probably still a couple of weeks work to go. Finished welding up the top of the Quarter and started welding up the pillar. Have also included a photo of the only L/H Front Roadster door that I could find. Still good for patterns and the part of the top section that is left is still usable. I have cut it off today and it is soaking in Deox C to kill the rust. I have a back seat out of a 37 sedan. The frame will need to be modified to fit for the phaeton. My 11 year old son stripped all of the old covers off them today so that we can start modifying the frame.
Ooooh... I love 2-door tubs! Fantastic work so far! All the details look right... the door shut-faces and reveal lines are exemplary. The metallic green on the flatty is dead sexy. I'll be watching this thread like a creep watches the swingset!
Blackroad Did you use exhaust tubing for the top roll on the rear 1/4's? I have been thinking of doing something similar with a rough old 39 sedan body I have. Michael
Hi Michael I did use exhaust tube, it had the same profile as the original door tops. Had a bit of trouble bending it in my pipe bender, probably should have filled it with sand to stop it crushing. Did it gently and lots of little bends to get a gentle curve.
Got a little bit done today. Managed to salvage a bit of the roadster door from previous photos. Tacked it in place on door so that I could align door to finish quarter panel. I will trim it properly later when I turn my attention to the door. Tacked in the lower quarter patch and aligned. Once I finish welding up the outside I will turn my attention to the inner supports.
Definitely want a roof. Can use a mates phaeton to make a set of fully operational hood bows, otherwise I will make a lift off top.

Hi Nostalgia 59 Been a bit slow lately, been building some gardens at home and it has been to cold in the shed at night. Snowed here last Tuesday. Finally bought a heater for the shed, so I'm getting back out there this week. Did a bit today, started finishing all of the inner panels on the L/H Quarter panel and steeling it out. Couple of photos attached.
I forgot it's winter in your part of the world. I've been playing with my project and can see how similiar it is to yours. Looking forward to seeing your progress..
Hey Nostalgia 59 Are you going to put some pictures up of your project now that you are playing with it. Would love to have a look. Wish I could have started with a tudor. Could have saved a lot of work, but tudors are not real thick on the ground down under.
I'll start a thread when I get it at a good point. I'm combining a tudor back half to a fordoor floor/cowl etc. Body and chassis are off to the blasters this week... Here's some pics in an album... http://s163.photobucket.com/albums/t307/nostalgia59/Project%2036/#!cpZZ1QQtppZZ24
Holy Hambone, this is lookin so sweet. The R & M auction car looked great. I am impressed with your vision and super nice work. Best wishes on the project. ~sololobo~
Wow, what a great build! I guess you already know about Tommy the Greek's 36: Tommy's car has been a wet dream of mine for a while now
Sorry guys, havn't done much over winter. Picked up some more parts I have been chasing. Have been working on a few things around the house whilst I get the chance. Won't do much now until Mid November as the family and I are heading to the USA on holidays next week. Whilst there we are taking in the Henry Ford Museum, Goodguys run in Charlotte and the Nascar in Texas. When we get home I will be hooking into the 36. Couple of recent photos attached.
Doing a '36 Phaeton was a longtime plan of mine. I had a rust free '36 Tudor flatback that I wanted to 'convert', but Real Estate forced a sale...your project is just superb. Hard as it is to do here, I am at sympathy with my mates 'down-unduh'! Great work, and good hunting here in the States for parts! Cheers...
Hi Guys, back from the states, had a ball, now time to get back onto the 36 and finish it off. Spent the couple of weeks since we got home finishing off the shed. Made myslf a new metal folder from a kit I bought a while ago from Metal Man Tools. Used it for the first time today and works a treat. Got the final welding done on the L/H rear quarter panel today and finished welding all the inner quarters. Also made up a panel to fill between the bottom of the quarter and floor/sill area. Ran out of gas for the mig, so had to stop welding there. Also trimmed the excess off the bottom of the floor subframe rails, finally allowing me to fit the running boards for the first time. Feels great to get back into it, now I'm not going to stop until it is finished.
Nothing like a trip to the states to recharge the batteries and get the juices flowing again. The car is looking real good.
