So Im starting off a build thread for my 36 3-window I picked up to weekends ago. I started laying out the chop and stuff tonight but of course the sawzall took a shit tonight when I started cutting and it was to late to go buy another one so I gotta go in the morning so the first post is kind of lame...but itll get updated throughout the chop this weekend...

Nice body! I look forward to what comes next. Can't say I think those winter fronts are real attractive though, rare or not.

  3. Nice start. What's your plans for it..besides the chop?

Top chop? Now I want to raise the roof on my garage.

  7. I will be watching this very closely and would like a lot of shots of what you are going todo with the body line on side of roof around the door opening.

  8. Looks like a helluva nice body, but I covet your shop...and that '53? Mercury convertible...

    Look forward to updates...

Okay so after my sawzall incident last night I was up and running again this morning...The header panel had already been cut off when I got the project...it was still stock height...so I started by cutting the b-pillar about 12" up and made a cut along the bottom of the roof about 1/2" above the belt-line...and roughly about half way up the rear window opening..It was at this point where I was like man I reall fucked up my car(no this isnt my 1st chop but still you get that anxiety of am I doing this right..chopping an A or 32 is ont thing this is way different)...then I laid out and cut 3" off the b-pillars and the rear window opening...After that I laid out and cut 3" off the roof(you'll notice my handy roof stand my dad left it sitting by the garage and I figured fuck it ill use it) so after that i started fitting the roof to the car I left some extra just incase material...so i trimmed that off and after about an hour of bitching and throwing the welding helmet it was back on...I made some relief cuts going up the roof about 12" and that leaves just a small wedge shaped piec that has to go in...you'll notice the openings after the b-pillar...its just the way I like to chop stuff...i have my own method I like to use and it works for me was the way I was taught from my one instructor at school and its one of those cant teach an old dog new tricks kinda things...some of you well think its wrong i really dont care it works for me and looks good when its done...I cut the front posts and put the header panel back on...and yes I know it looks like the roof sections dont line up...they do I just havent made the sleeve to go between the too to hold it in place and give it the extra support...tomorrow Ill finish welding the roof and get it finished up and then move onto the doors...after the doors im going to roll out a panel on the english wheel for the roof insert so thats where Im at right now...gotta love 4-day weekends

just the way i was taught my teacher had done it like that for years...he said its easier than trying to cut and fit everything in one shot incase you have to move the roof around...we did a 35 3-window the same wat...it turned out beautiful...I guess there is no real purpose its just everyone has there own way of doing things...thats mine...like I said right or wrong its how ive done them before how Ill keep doing them...i generally dont care what people have to say about my work as long as its safe and it looks right in the end...its right in my book...but everyone has there own opinion...theyre like assholes everyone has one

Thanks for all the support everybody...i actually have many other projects i should be working on but I had this thing like 2 weeks and it was eating at me to chop it...it was all i could think about so i started cutting...here is the crestliner wheel I got...paid a bunch for it but hey it is a crestliner wheel and I got it a lot cheaper than most...Im basically doing everything I always wanted to to on this car and its becoming my daily driver...so basicall anything I ever wanted in a car is going in this one..
