Projects 36 Chevy 3 window project - modified

  1. I had a few responses from the Dogfight site and seems these are rear snouts. They can be used for the front with a little machining. I remed the holes in the spindle and the bolts fit the snout straight. Will have the snouts hogged out to fit the large area of the spindle. Been jumping around mocking up different parts on the car. I couldn't get a good idea on how to mount the seat and be able to have leg room. i've been searching for cars in the construction or destruction phase to see how the framework works into the scheme of things. Any ideas would be apreciated (pictures too). I saved the old seat rigging from the old frame and clamped to the frame where I thought it was located. (I'll have to check my pics to find out for sure). Sat in the seat and I think I can maybe work with this. Any ideas or pics would be good. Some cars have the floor on top of the frame and some have the floor in front, down to lower edge of the frame to increase leg room (depending on the pedals you use).

  2. Well, I will have to wait till next week to get the snouts machined to fit the spindles. I'll have to do some more mocking up to figure the seat placement so I put on one of the motor mount setups i have on the engine, mounted the bellhousing and trans. I have a blowup proof bell housing but discovered it has a 4 1/2 in hole and the trans needs a 5 inch hole. When did Chevy change this? I must have missed that. I bolted the 5 inch hole bellhousing and trans to the engine and placed it into the ch***is. I've got to find the driveshaft that came with this car, with a little luck it might fit. I might go with a different motor mount setup. Have to check to see what I have. As fot the trans and bellhousing, I'll be looking for something to fit the blowup proof bell housing or a 5 inch blowup proof bell housing to go with trans. Never ending hunting for parts. I'll have enough to build another car the rate it's going.

Are you sure that bell housing is for a Chevy trans Ford top loader tans was pretty popular for their stronger cases might be chevy motor Ford trans bell.

Why not machine out the bell housing to fit the larger ****** hole ?

  5. Trans problem solved!! I had an old ******, short shaft modified, and the bolt pattern matched, and it is the right size that fits the blow up proof bell housing. I switched it out and cleaned up the outside of the ****** and painted it today.

  6. Been awhile since my last post. Been posting on Dogfightmag.com Making a little progress finding some parts and getting a tube bender, tubing notcher and drill press. I started the roll cage. Still waiting for the front snouts. I will probably use a spacer on them to bolt the snout to the spindle. Can't wait to get the front axle and spindles, and wheels on to make it easier to roll in and out of garage. The past 3 weekends have been mild and been trying to get things done. (The snow will come soon).

  7. Here are some of the latest pics of my build. Rolled the car out this morning, got some pics before it started to rain and then some snow. Still searching for parts.
