Wow, what a nice car, great score, I love those things. So I am tattooing this guy the other day, he is 59 and getting his firts tattoo. I asked why get one at 59? He says he is going thru a divorce and he is living his life now. He sees a pic of my A coupe on the wall and he says "So I see your into old hotrods" so I tell him O yeah. He says "Lookie what I bought for $5000.00 bucks off of a widow" and he pulls out a picture of a really nice black 36 3 window. Tells me it has a 289 Ford in it and drives like a dream. Damn, some guys have all the luck. Trying to get him to take it to billit proof NW.
Thanks guys, you'll be seeing it shortly. just ordered heads and am emailing DMarv about an offy intake tonight. cool story about the guy and his tattoo K-Member! Petejoe- i'm up in Rochester (Wellington). Ever heard of that? it's about 45 miles SW of cleveland.
Good score Ace!!! Dave wasn't to happy you stole it from him! He's been after that car for a while. Glad a fellow Rumbler got it tho!
haha, i know! He mentioned you the other day about something. i forget what about though! He did give me a model A roadster cowl though. That was pretty awesome of him. Even if i did steal his car
Awesome thread. *****in' car! Man what are the chances of finding another in that condition with such cool history? Good for you Ace, awesome find.
Well, been a while since i posted anything here. Just a quick update for anyone that's been interested in the progress of the ol' gal! Started working on the hydraulic brake conversion. Switched the front already, and in the next couple days i have available i'm going to switch the rears. they will be '46 ford. the fronts are '48. i used the kit from speedway that adapts model A spindles to hyrdo. brakes. works pretty darn good. they give you an extra spacer that you don't need on the '36 spindles as they are the same length as the 39-48. A brakes are a bit longer. Anyhow, also got a new windshield cut. Only took 6 weeks to cut a flat piece of gl***...go figure. Anyhow, it fits great. it was so bad you couldn't see out of it from the moisture splitting the gl***. BIG difference. No photos of that yet. Got the 59AB in place. Will probably have to pull it back out one last time to replace the clutch fork shaft to the later '48 style. Anyhow, here's some photos of it as of late. '48 brakes. eventually will reverse eye on spring, and i think over the winter a dropped axle is in order. time to get my jig squared up.... oh, this shock is frozen. anyone got one for me? The"on hold" 48 ford project, and donor for the 59AB. That will be getting a 283. 3 deuces, corvette valve covers, all the goodies....i know i know...small block chevy at least it's an old one
Sorry we missed coming over on Saturday. Pacey got into the semi finals. Then there was the band race, but only he and I were in bands and racing. So I won the guitar.
I wouldn't have said a word, especially on the Internet, until that car was home in my garage. Good luck, and no, I am not out looking for it!
hey cut55, unless i told you what town it was in and where exactly you'd never know it was there. Doesn't matter anyhow, it's in my garage as we speak! Django, wondered what happened to ya! congrats on the guitar, i want to see it! how'd pacey do overall?? sorry i missed it! -ace
Not sure if you already did the swap to 12v or not, hope you didn't pay some one too If your other gen was 12v just take the field coils out of it. worked great on my 34.
56 Ford Truck. Drew Edit: BTW, I forgot to add, what a great score. and I really dig the direction your taking it.
Sorry, I wasn't trying to be a ****, I was just commenting on what can happen if some other dude sees your post and grabs a cool car out from under you. It's happened. That is a killer score, congrats!
thanks g***er freak, i'll have to check into that next time. cut55, no worries! i wasn't trying to come off ****ty either, just meant that i'd driven past the place this was sitting about daily for 3 or 4 years and had no clue it was there! that's why i was careful not to say where exactly it was
A great score. Congratulations! A wonderful car and its great to see that you are preserving it. I tend to feel to cars as to old furnitures, keeping the history if isnt too far gone and needs a major restauration. Keep the old paint as much as ever possible is great, and maintain it well. I would love to have a Washington Blue -36... I can agree a bit with Cut55 since I recently made a mistake myself. I found a well hidden supplier of NOS parts and did ask a question on the HAMB concerning details about those parts (46-48 Buick Roadmaster side trim) not mentioning were I found them. Well, one day later the trim I needed was gone, after many years on the shelf. All due to HAMB and me mentioning it... Im happy that you didnt meet the same fate as my purchase did (even if my "find" was a much smaller one...).
Here's a teaser shot for ya... I couldn't resist adding a little something to the car. she was begging for it...i swear!! i'll drive, that's right DRIVE it outside in the next day or two to get a few shots. Still tuning the 2X2 holleys. One needs to be pulled apart again...damn it. but, i did drive it around the yard the other day with no brakes i posted in the cl***ifieds looking for some 46-48 backing plates (rears) if anyone's got a set for me. a few people have PMd me so far but i'm still hunting. once i get those, the back brakes will be on and it will be driving. Built the master cylinder bracket, i'll post pictures of that shortly. maybe as it's own thread...i'll link it here when i do. pretty simple, but time consuming. Here's the shot for you: and i know, someone will probably say i shouldn't have...but that's life i suppose.
Thats it...now ya went and ruined it with all that chicken scratch on the rear...better send it to me to fix!
You must have missed the post where he took the dude a sack of cash and loaded it up on his trailer and took it home. It helps to read the whole thread before you post.
see, i knew one of you would say somethin' it's on a flatbead headin' your way! (and if you believe that, i've got a bridge i'd like to sell you...)
That car is nuts. What a ride..... No idea what you gave for it, but worth a mint in that shape. Very nice.
thanks guys, i'm at the hospital right now with my grandmother...she's got a tumor on her liver so most progress has haulted on the '36 until we find out what we can do. however, yesterday i did drive it about a mile down the road. needs some carb adjustment but wow was is fun! I'll add some video. i just got the back brakes in the mail a few days ago and i can't wait to get them on! i'll have some more up in a couple of days for sure. and a 'tech' on the master cylinder bracket i fabbed up. pretty simple but effective! Thanks again guys! -ace
