Gday crew We are up to the stage of getting the upholstery together in our coupe and we are trying to work out exactly what we are missing in regards to roof bows or wires and their position. Can find very little info , if anyone had a photo of bows/wires in position that would be great Cheers
I’ll try to get a shot of my basket case, but, from memory, there’s a layer of chicken wire above the bows.
As @finn says originally they had chicken wire above the wooden bows then padding and vinyl. On my 32-5 window I screwed a rolled aluminium panel to the timber - I think it was 1.6 or 2.0 mm thick then the foam and vinyl went on that.
The headliner tacks to the wood roof bows that are not in place in your picture. There should be tack strips in the channels above the doors and quarter windows. The wind lace is tacked there. There are toothed metal retainers that fasten over the tack strips where the headliner is tucked under. There are wires that screw above the tack strips to support the outer edges of the headliner. It looks like you have the tack strip that goes around the back over the rear window which indicates the earlier style with panels behind the quarter windows wrapping around the rear window. Some random pictures; including both early and later style headliners.
