Greetings; I hope I'm in the right place - I think I've got one last build in me: long history with English cars (e.g. since 11) and Hudsons, several Indians and a midlife crisis restomod fastback Mustang adhering to originality but is a blast on an autocross course.

The bucket list has a Hot rod on it and I've been on the hunt for the right starter car. I am headed to see a rust free 36 Ford 2 door sedan split window straight back that has been channeled and is currently headed for a rat rod treatment. I believe the doors have been rehinged to open suicide, I've never seen a 36 suicide front door but perhaps??? Polished 4 link and grill is the current look.

I however am interested in a full fendered rod. The hood and grill frame are there, the body is very good but all the fenders and wells are gone. There's not much sheet metal there from the hood down and firewall forward so I have some la***ude to customize e,g, its not like the inner fender walls are there so they don't necessarily have to bolt up to anything that currently exists except the grill frame. I am fine fabricating but not so much with an English wheel kind of fabricator. I can hammer some with dollies and weld pretty well with a 4" grinder to heal sins. Do nice body work and paint.

Given my druthers, I'd like some 37/38 front fenders with the teardrop headlights but my question is what am I up against finding metal fenders for this car and what year fenders will fit? From research I can find that Coupes and Sedans have different rear fenders but can't really find much info on what fits or can be made to fit without major changes in the lines of the fenders or grill.

Appreciate any ***istance / advice you can give me as I am headed to see the car tomorrow afternoon and would like to understand if I am after unobtanium and what my options are.

Appreciate the help and any tolerance if I posted incorrectly.

Split window? Are you sure? The first two pieces in Fords were the 37 models.

  3. Are you willing to travel to find those fenders ? Whats your location, U.S.A. or U.K. Usually handy to update that info . ( in reference to the autocross course )

Hudsons, Indians, restomod, autocross...I'd say American of some kind.

American yes, Upstate NY - I could not find a split window 36 in images - Hmmmm. Travel is not a problem although over a pond might be a stretch. The cars are all history just to say, I have been getting in over my head for most of my life. I'm down to a 57TR3 and the Mustang. Could really use some help here as this car has a very good start for the image I have in mind for my next project but I just don't know this car parts market or the cars.

    Thanks! Mark

Stand Down, it took me a while to figure out what was going on here, a lot of googling trying to match an unusual beauty line under the windows led me to the realization that its a 36 Terraplane body on a 36 Ford frame,Thanks guys, could be a very cool car, I might go see it but finding fenders - ugh...

Caution: unless you know your way around these cars and are good at fabrication etc, I would stay away from Frankensteins.

I do have my Frankensteinesque reservations about this one but on the other side, I love Terraplanes and especially 34 to 36 with the suicide doors. I had a 34 in my youth, real innovators the Terraplane guys were. Roll open/close wing windows and if you keep rolling past close they go down in the door. Everything about them is cool from the design with grills to die for to the technology. My old Terraplane was reserected from a who know how many decades and won a bet drag racing my buddies brand new Dodge van with a slant six in a drag race, now stopping with mechanical brakes was an exercise in futility ;o)

I do have decent fabrication skills but finding missing fenders and while the grill frame is there finding the grill pieces is likely not doable without buying a car or at least paying as much as...

THanks for all your help guys. Think I'll browse the cl***ified whilst I'm here.
