the cowl vent ratchet arm and spring were missing on my 36 pickup. so then i found out that 33-34 p***enger car vent mechanism parts were interchangeable with 35-36 pickups or so i thought. i just bought the ratchet and spring at the kalamazoo show, get it home and i try to install it and it seems like the ratchet arm is too long, when i hook it on it hits the dash. i cant even see where to hook the spring to. does anyone have any pics or diagrams of how this should work? thanks
the top of the spring should go into a little hole on the underside of the drip rail around the opening , and the other side to the end of the ratchet arm thing. i don't think you want 33-34 parts , on a friends `36 pickup i believe we used `35-`36 car stuff
hmm, well ill have to look again. acording to this site it says the ratchet is the same http://www.aaaparts.cwmax.com/fordcowl.htm
ok i got it to work, the spring end of the arm had to be shorted about 3/16" to clear the dash, the spring was very hard to get on and once i did get it on the vent was very hard to open and shut. so i heated the spring with a propane torch with tension on it until what i felt was the proper tension. now it work perfectly.
