The garnish molding from the 4 door car fits a coupe perfectly on the doors. Really, the only modifications that I had to do were on the 1/4 windows.. I'll take a few pictures and post them this weekend.
Dang; a bustle (hump) back, and flat-back (slant-back) sedans. Little to no trunk space in those models.. Yours is coming along nicely; keep up the good work!
Looking very nice! You got about a month and a half to go!! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
To get a little consistency I sprayed color over the area that had been worked... and followed that by wiping the paint off with a dry rag. Followed that up with a wax compound over the entire exterior that I use on painted cars after they have been cut and buffed.
Decided to keep this "Awesome" patch panel on the fender for now. This was probably done sometime in the 50's.
To me it's just a visual thing. A hot rod with new plastic wires. http://cached.tptools.com/RS/SR/collection/96/col_2033_R_17fcb867.jpg
Well, if you need one, I happen to have an extra set I cut out on the cnc table when I cut mine. Was gonna put it in my dads 55 chev shortbox pickup, but he sold it before we notched it.
Funny thing is that I had the notches sitting in the garage and decided not to install them... Before I re-thought the idea.. I sold them off
"Slow down, you're making me look bad" That's not what I'm hearing from my sources... word is, you're way ahead of me.
A couple of pictures of the 1/4 window garnish that I used from a 4 door. It has the same general shape, except that it is about an inch longer overall. Basically just have to remove an inch front area and then weld it back together:
Very Nice Caddy-O,,,,, On the door fitment, did you hold the door in alignment with the strap to shim the cowl to get the gaps or? Thanks
Todd.. That's basically what I did. There were 2 stress cracks on the cowl, so I used the strap to get the door positioned how I wanted it and then welded those 2 areas. Also, If you look at the photo, I got a little more adjustment by shimming the door between the B pillar and the door hinge. Hope this helps
Thanks, I thought it was something like that. One of my 40's has the driver door about like yours, while the pass door fits better that I've ever seen, just wait till I get adjusting that one, both doors will fit like the drivers...
Heading out Thursday morning... doing a couple of last minute fixes before I leave. I've put about a 100 miles on the car this week, so hopefully all the bugs will be worked out by then.
I have really enjoyed your progress. I have a 36 five window barn find as well. It sat in a warehouse in the Chicago area from 1957 until I purchased it in 2002. It had a factory dual quad Y block and an absolutely perfect body. I went through the car retaining the Y block and have been driving it ever since. Now I have about 20000 miles on it and still love driving the car.
