can you take a 1 ton 1936 ford flatbed frame (commercial i think) and make a rod out of it? how much different is the front end designed compared to the 1/2 ton? the rear doesn't really matter does it? it can just be boxed right? channeling wouldn't be any different because of the frame would it? i wouldn't think so but this will be my first extensive build if i choose to buy this vehicle so any knowledgable advice will be great. bonus questions: anyone know a good flathead builder in the midwest? what kind of tranny can you hook up to a flathead? what would be a good rear end? it sorta like this.
There's adapters for a number of different transmissions to a T5. Truck frame is heavier, I thought by '35 Ford had box rails anyways. Front axle and suspension is bigger and heavier, worst case you'd need a half ton crossmember to swap in a lighter front. The added length in the back is handy, you aught to be able to build the rear suspension any way you want - stock style, coils, parallell leaf even.
Sweet! i have a commercial 36 but it's going on a 40 coupe frame...I imagine that you can do any thing you want with that frame. I have a 29 international truck with a heavy ass frame(it was a dually) I'm gonna shorten it and kick it up in the rear, It's so thick that I don't have to box it..but I will still beef up around the modifications i do.
