I'm thinking this has been fitted up under the dash in a past life, judging by the way it has been welded to the underside of the cowl. Wondering whether it is for an under-dash hand brake pivot or something similar. My 3-window came to me as a bare body with no dash so it could possibly have had a later dash fitted at some stage. Be nice to know before I cut it out... Bear
From the looks of the weld it was added by someone. When I first started welding the old guys called me Dobber because my efforts looked like a Mud Dobber nest, like your picture.
Thanks for the replies guys - I already figured it didn't belong there. Was kinda' hoping someone might be able to identify its origin. I'm in the process of fitting a '40 Ford dash (right hand drive) at the moment and wondered if it might have had something similar in there previously. If that bracket was for a parking brake pivot I don't think it would have held too good.... Bear
If you can add some pics of your dash install someday, I'd bet quite a few would like to see stuff like that. (me too)
