I'm thinking this has been fitted up under the dash in a past life, judging by the way it has been welded to the underside of the cowl.
Wondering whether it is for an under-dash hand brake pivot or something similar. My 3-window came to me as a bare body with no dash so it could possibly have had a later dash fitted at some stage.

Be nice to know before I cut it out...

Only brackets on the inside of the cowl on my '35 3W are for the cowl vent.

Does actually belong there, that welding looks like someone goobered it there.

From the looks of the weld it was added by someone. When I first started welding the old guys called me Dobber because my efforts looked like a Mud Dobber nest, like your picture.

Thanks for the replies guys - I already figured it didn't belong there.:D
Was kinda' hoping someone might be able to identify its origin. I'm in the process of fitting a '40 Ford dash (right hand drive) at the moment and wondered if it might have had something similar in there previously.
If that bracket was for a parking brake pivot I don't think it would have held too good....

If you can add some pics of your dash install someday, I'd bet quite a few would like to see stuff like that. (me too)
