the problem is that the arm that comes off of the steering box can only go on two ways, it hits the pan. anyone have a solution? Thanks

File the little wide spline in the pitman to look like all the other splines. Then you will have an infinite adjustment. Use a small triangle shaped file. But this still might not let you clear the pan.

Moving the pitman arm solves nothing. Modify the truck pan with a hammer or move the sump back by cutting & welding. The best fix is a '49 or '50 Mercury pan.
