Well, finally a month after I (realistically) thought it'd be painted, and a month after I in***ially (VERY optomistically back in December when it was all mocked up) thought I'd be driving it, I finally got the primer on the '36 Fordillac! Got a gallon of Featherfill type polyester primer on the body tub and all the sheet metal. The frame is ready for color, likewise the suspension bits, so tommorow I hope to get those in color and cleared, and the engine painted. Then life intervenes and I work Thurs and Fri, and on Sat maybe, just maybe, I'll get the ch***is up on wheels again !! Then, I know, there are days of block sanding, repriming, more blocking, guide coating, etc., but it's gett'n closer! The last shot is of the dash with the Harley speedo setting in, which I learned here should work OK. I like it.
I had half a gun full of clear left after painting my sons '62 Impala today, since it's to pricey to throw out and the '36's frame and axles were ready to paint, I got 'em cleaned and tacked off, and put the Olive green basecoat on and used up the clear on 'em. The basecoat looked HORRIBLEin the can, and as I was mixing it, and I thought I'd made the wrong choice of color, but on the parts, it looks great. A deep, dark Olive green that looks just like I'd imagined. Now, I'll get the engine painted tommorow and can ***emble the ch***is and get it back to being a roller! My wife helped me put the bumpers back on the Impala, the FIRST TIME she's helped me do anything in the garage hot rod related, so she's got a photo credit!
