Just picked up a 365 Caddy engine today, when it was stored in the right side valve cover was missing, during its storage rain leaked through and onto the complete valve train that now looks like rust, I pulled the plugs and poured ATF in the cylinders and will let is soak for a couple of day as I can not turn it over with a socket wrench at this time, any other suggestions? Is there a certain place I should be purchasing any internal parts I may need like Pistons, Cam, Rods, etc, etc ?

I like Kanter. not the cheapest option, but they've always been good to me.

Egge Machine carries guts and I think Speedway has pistons and such too.

you can get a full gasket kit at your local big box store cheaper than anywhere else.

    isky makes cam kits.

search for Marcus's link about the cad OHV motors.

Marvel Mystery Oil would have been a better oil to use in the cylinders. I would probably go ahead and remove the whole rocker shaft ***embly if it's that rusted.was tgere water in the pan or in the cylinders?

In my humble opinion if it has been sitting any length of time, (years) and it's stuck, it's stuck.
I have played with several Cadillacs that were stuck, and no amount of "Magic Elixir", even goat piss would free them up. About the only thing I didn't try was The "Barrel of Mol***es" that is highly touted here on the HAMB.
We're talking months of fartin' around.
The end result is the pistons must be removed with a large hammer and a block of wood.
After removing the pistons, I find that rust is not the problem but corrosion in the piston grooves making the rings tight to the piston and the bore. Even after the pistons are removed the rings must chiseled free from the pistons.
I think if one is looking to purchase an engine that is stuck, one should p***. That's excluding worn out flatheads that just about fall apart after the heads are pulled.
I hope you have better luck.

  5. take it apart , or at least take the heads off so you know what you have. all it will cost you is a few gaskets

Believe it or not Falcon on ebay has good stuff. A rebuild kit is like 1200 bucks. I can't speak for the others but have dealt with the Falcon stuff. Only 9 negative reviews out of almost 50,000 aint bad..

Thanks for the info guy's, I hope I can save the block, I can see a greasy lifter bay and when I looked down the distributer hole I can see old oil which give me a little hope, I just hope I can save the block and I will buy new internals as needed. These old Caddy engines are hard to come by here in So Cal.
