I have: a very solid 37 4 door slant back. (2 too many doors)
I may get: a 38 2 door standard trunk back shell (no fenders, no doors, no front clip, no frame)
My plan is to cut and weld and swear until I have a 2 door 37 slant back (on the cheap).

My Question: From what I have read here, the front clip from the 37 will bolt to the 38 cowl. Will the 37 rear fenders bolt up as well?

The doors will have to be sectioned and lengthened, which will be a big undertaking and I will patch the slant back trunk lid where the humpback used to be. (Love the sheet metal work.)

    Thanks in advance!

I have a '38 and liking the '37 rear fender better, took pictures and measurements many times. Not knowing for sure and thinking I could "massage" the '37's if necessary, I bought a Fiberglass re-pop and....It doesn't fit, not even close! Now it's wall art.

  4. '37 slant back rear fenders will only fit a '37 slant back. There are also two other types of '37 rear fenders (1) coupe/roadster/cabriolet and (2) humpback/convertible sedan/phaeton. Like slowforty already said '38 are unique to '38's.

The question you might want to find the answer too is how similar or different are '37, '38, '39, ,40 Tudor and Fordor doors?

37 humpback and 38 std sedan (humpback) can share rear fenders.

but i would not go to all the work of trying to convert a 38 humpback into a 37 flat back.

if you have a good 4dr go with , sell it , or fix it a little and sell, then buy what you want.
there is also the possibilty you will not end up with anything.

It not the easiest task, but you could take the '38 tudor quarters and hang them onto the '37 body. Under the sill of the 4dr. there will be a notch in the rockers where the door post of a tudor would weld/bolt on(about 6" back from the 4dr. post), use this to located the quarters. It would be loads easier to find a set of '37-39 2dr. doors(or 40's if you want flip windows), and sell your front doors to a guy doing a coupe, to offset the cost. Just make sure to have the 2dr. doors on hand before you start. If you split the quarters under the drip rail, and go around the wheel wells, there should be a minimum of welding. Make sure to check, check and re-check your door gaps before you burn on the quarters.

I am doing almost the same. I started out with a 37 4 dr with good front and rear. I bought a 38 2 dr hump back. I have changed the 38 hump rear to the 37 flatback by seperating at the factory seam under the window then cutting down thru rear quarters. I have mounted the fenders and new sheet metal under the trunk lid. I have a pair of decent sedan doors for $350 if your interested.
