    Gotta 'nother question. [IMG]

If I go to an old-car junkyard looking for a '40 Ford p***enger body for the windshield section, and happen to locate a totally and completely stripped early Ford p***enger body ready to yield its windshield/roof/cowl section, then...

HOW OH HOW can I tell if the body is a '40 and not a '37-9 or a '41 body?

I need a '40-only section, the nearest I can tell. As with the baristas, tips are appreciated. Thx.

40 had vent windows and a fixed windshield with wipers in the cowl. the earlier cars had no vent windows, hinged, opening windshields with the wiper(s) in the roof (except 39 convertibles, which had them in the cowl)

...and the '41 body is a completely different, chubbier shape which should be obvious when you see it (unless we're talking pickup bodies). Note also that the '40 woodie and convertible windshield is very different from the other p***enger bodies, but it's unlikely you're gonna find either of those in a junkyard anyway.

the 41 to 46 bodies are a great deal wider in the windshield area as well. take a take with you and measure the width from center to outside... Its amazing how much wider the 41 is from the 40..

40 and 39 bodys are the same except the 40 has the wipers in the cowl rather then above the windshield and in a 39 the windshield cranks out. I have a 40 Deluxe and the two new windshields I have put in it over the years are or were V ****ed. I have a complete 39 crank out ***embly, gl*** installed, what is it that you need? Send me a PM and maybe I can help you out. I don't know what this picture id in the last post but it is not a 39 or 40 Ford.

Take another look and you will see that it is a 40 coupe. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

John....about the 39 crank out windshield you have. What kind of shape is the chrome? I have a complete windshield ***y but the chrome will have to be redone. If I could find a nice one,it would save me some time and money. Email me at Fortyfordguy@yahoo.com. I'm in Cincinnati so I'm not far. Thanks.

Is a 40 p***enger car windshield different from commercial?

I was just told the inside trim was the same on pickup and car, but the car winshield looks bigger to me.

I've been told that the windshields are identical for '40 P'up and P***.

I've been told that the inner reveal moldings also interchange for '40, but the p***enger has something slightly different on the RH molding (might be the vent, or something underneath the vent on the bottom side that is hidden).

I've been told that it will probably be way too much trouble to fit a '40 windshield into a '39.

What I need is the sheetmetal clip from a '40 p***enger (all except woodie/convert) that includes the windshield opening, the roof to back behind the front doors, and the cowl, all cut from the beltline up. This will then be grafted into my '40 P'up for the sloped-back windshield and also the fact that the windshield comes off the cowl a little sooner on the p***enger car than on the P'up. It'll be cool. [IMG]

Damm it FortyFord, you beat me to it! I am looking for a better 39 than the one I got. How good of shape is yours in? Mine doesn't need to be perfect, just better'n what I have. Maybe John can deal his to you and yours to me?????

    Just thinking out loud....

Oh, and the above info on 39/40 windshields is spot on.

Roadstar and John Copeland: the picture in Roadstar's post is indeed a '40 coupe, but it has been modified by the addition of a woodie/convert windshield. There was a discussion of this car, with a bunch of pictures, in a recent post about car names.
