I figured I'd start a new post and maybe lose all that frikin bagage from my project start post cause this is a serious update post, right???? Yea, right!!
I'll put some detail pics up to get caught up.

After dropping the 37 down where it's going to ridewhen it's done, this is where it started last week at Dave's (Glassguy) Shop.

After a bunch of hours walking around the car and draining diet bud's the saw comes out. Somewhere around 3" is coming off. We had originally talked about leaning the windshield post back and working the cuts so the top wouldn't have to be cut, but to keep the quarter windows reasonable, the top got cut in half.

3" got taken out of the windshield post and then the front section was welded in place with the usual adjusting.

  2. Looking good, the end result with leaving the posts at stock angle will be worth it. I never have seen a chop with leaned pillars that looked as good as one with stock angle pillars.

Th B-pillar got worked next with the blending it needed. [IMG]

I had to share this new welding helmet with you guys. I don't think Dave invented it, but he calls it the invisi-shield. You get a tan while you work and don't have to bother with those pesky strap lines around your forhead!

Door is tacked and only needs the filler strip.

You'll get the idea of where this is going from the next couple of pictures. I don't think it's to bad for a half days work for Dave!
Oh yea, he just had to tie wrap the spot light on.

It's a pain in the ass bein a couple of hours away from Dave's shop, especially the way he works when he gets on a roll, but I'll get as many pics of the chop up as I can.
The easy part is done. Now it's on to the rear roof quarters
    Later, LSM

  4. Yeah, I like it! I'm considering the same thing with my '40 pontiac, it has the same slanted B pillars and the same quater window shape, I'm very interested to see more pics!

    hahaha...solid, real solid man!
We pulled the leaf springs out and welded the front and rear axles right to the frame.
When it comes back home, it'll be getting into the suspension next. I'll pass what I do in the updates, but right now it's sitting at my planned ride height.

redoxide, Have you ever talked to a rock? That'd be like talking to Dave about that. He's got helmets and he's been to the hospital enough times for second degree "sun burns" and shit in his eyes.
    Maybe he'll listen to you!

I used the same method when I tacked the roof back together on my 36 Years ago. Sunburned Eye lids are not fun. I wish I had my new welding helmet back then.

The things you learn the hardway.

    Looking great.

That's a perfect chop, just the right amount. It looks 100% better than the stock height.

Absolutely perfect. The chop amount is right on the money as is the stance, and those fenderskirts look so good on this one.

What are your plans for the front of the car/ Drop the headlights a bit and for grille?

    Keep us posted.

keep looking at your pics and love the car, like others say stance is perfect.

Im still worried about your buddy though. your eyes can only take so much intense UV. the gritty feel with "ARK EYE" is caused by hundreds of tiny blisters on the surface of your eye, not good, the UV also burns the retina so you have a 100% chance of causing irrepairable damage and eventual blindness or partial blindness.

The sunburn you get is the least of your worries, thats caused by UV as well and it will only give you skin cancer.. of which you can die.

Its no joke, Dave obviouly has tallent, but his tallent will bestow many more automotive creations if he can retain the gift of his eye sight.

Ive never seen any blind welders, but ive seen a few blind beggars.

Im not meaning to detract from your post, your car is still cool, but Dave is so uncool jepordising his tallent for the sake of a $50 welding helmet.

    Hey LeadSled,
Looks great. I've got a '38 coupe but didn't chop it. Made it into a 3 window and rounded the rear corner of the door. Take a look.

    oh, hell yeah!

that back end looks so good and clean like that. are you gonna shave the trunk handle? also, you should consider some alternative to the back bumper, that thing looks so slick without one...

I'm loving it. The chop and stance look killer!!! I would lower the headlights a bit. I love the 37 bodyline down the side of the door. This thing is going to be sweet! So far the HAMB has 37, 39, and 40 chevy taildraggers...gotta get a 38 next :D What's the plans for suspension? Are you keeping the leafs?
