My 37 is in full primer now. The sill under the quarter window flexes easily with finger pressure. Is there a brace missing?
    Anyone have pics?

Thank you for the pic. Is there a horizontal piece under the sill?

Couple more pictures, but this was a 38 not a 37. I assumed 37 had something about the same.

Best picture I have shows the wood bolted top and bottom off the behind the seat tray with the metal frame extending up to the bottom of the 1/4 window sill, down to allow for attaching the brace.

The pics of the '38 are pretty much identical to that of a '36 5w coupe, so it's a fair bet that '37's were similar! I'm not sure how much support that structure would provide to the outer skin, if anything. I saw the wooden upright and the horizontal angle as being there to support the large parcel shelf, although I guess some rigidity might have been given to the sill of the rear side window. Thinking about it the shelf itself plus the cross brace (a plank, approx 6" * 1" - with the 6" dimension standing vertically) spanning the width of the car probably provides considerable support. I did run a '36 5w coupe without this fitted though and don't recall anything bad, but the wooden, side uprights were fitted however.

You could sure add some support braces. And it might be wise to consult your upholsterer, as they might have some suggestions that would make their job easier in the process. Maybe that curved brace could also be the mounting point for the side panels and the rear cockpit panel.
