Bed front, tailgate, and all mounts to the frame...

 

Then it was off to my buddy's fabrication shop for the cage. Thanks for the haul, Ted!

Perfect timing, cause we sold our house and had to move over the next couple of weeks...

Gerry Jr. at East Coast Fabrication in Rochester, MA did the cage for me.
Not necessarily HAMB friendly, but he did an awesome job, and perfect for what I'm looking to do with this P/U!
Wish I had taken more pics of the sheet metal, but you'll see it later.

 

Then it was off to New England Dragway in Epping, NH to get the cage NHRA certified. They told me it was way overkill for the 8.50 cert I was looking for...that's good, right?

 

That is one badass truck! As for the overkill, better too strong than not strong enough. Ask any NASCAR driver that endoed at nearly 200 mph.

 

Yep, that's exactly what I'm thinking...you never know, and I'd rather not have to think about it when I'm in the seat!

 

Very nice. I'm a firm believer that old trucks make the best looking drag vehicles.

 

Aren't you worried about the slicks growing in dia. and rubbing the inside of the fenders? From here they look awful close.

 

I've got to agree!!

Not worried...I've planned 1-1/2" growth without rubbing...and I've still got the final adjustments to make when I do the shake down. Should be good.

 

Totally Wicked Keith .... how much H.P. are you plugging into those frame rails?

 

Looking for 725-750 HP out of the 418 SBC going in...for now!
It'll be going on the dyno soon.

 

Started prepping for body work, and tubbed the fenders...

 

Are you running a 4.30 gear in it?

 

4.56 and a Powerglide.

That truck is going to be incredibly hard to paint with the body, frame and rollcage integrated. But I know it will come out fantastic. I will definitely be going to New England Dragway to see you run .

 

Hey LEDSLEDMERC, do you have any pics of the fuel cell cradle without the tank in it? I'm looking for some ideas for mine. Thanks!

That was the original plan, even had it registered and a plate...but it's gone too far for the street now.

Painting is all done, Rob, it actually wasn't too bad. Like I had posted, I busted my arm up pretty good, and I had just finished the last of the painting the morning I busted it. The paints had 3 months to dry, and I started the final assembly last week...pics to come.

Yep, they'll be coming...dis-assembly and painting pics next.

The basement garage I was working in was soo damp, everything bare would rust up fast. I'd only prep what I could get painted real fast.

Priming begins...

 

Looks great. I didn't think it would see the street....but you never know! Keep up the great work. Even with a broken arm you're kicking my ass getting projects done!
