Your car is not fenderless. They maybe small, but they are there.....And look great I might add....

If you are not in need of the front clip on teh hudson, PM me. If the price is fair, I NEED it badly. My whole front clip is destroyed. Thanks in advance.

I'm really diggin' those inner fender wells. If you keep those I think it might actually look cool without the fenders!

I Duno you asked for opinions so mine is do what you want.
I always see photo shops from the side I would dig seeing a 3/4 view of of it. I'm sure that's a big pain in the *** tho. Just a heads up the straight eights are tough to find speed parts for... But there is an Edmunds head on Egay right now.

Me too in the photochop, but I think in reality you´d soon realise it´s about twice the size of a VW and would look a lot better and different to any Volksrod from any view other than dead side on. The LZ grille and nose is killer.

I'm with you. That looks killer. Just the way I'd do it. With its size, it won't look much like a VW.

This all looks very familiar, Ford Australia actually manufactured this body style in 1939 and 1940.

Clearly, there is a reason why it's never been done.

There is a reason no one ever hot rodded a Hudson straight eight: It is a lousy engine, at least for performance. And I'm a Hudson fan.

In the straight eight era, Hudson was a firm believer in splash lubrication. This worked OK as long as speeds were low and you did not indulge in long periods of high speed driving.

Hudson changed to full pressure lubrication about the same time they dropped the straight eight in favor of the big 308 cu in six.

Also the Hudson straight eight was not very large in displacement and HP.

On the good side, it is about the shortest, lightest straight eight ever made. Actually shorter and lighter than some six cylnder car engines.

One way they kept the size down was by casting the cylinders "siamese fashion". In other words the cylinders were tight together with no cooling p***ages in between. This meant, when the engine got hot the cylinders would distort and go egg shaped. Then the rings wouldn't seal and the oil burning would start. To combat this they pinned the rings in place.

If I was rodding that car I think I would look for a cheap Jaguar V12. I have seen them for $1500 to $2500, less if they are not running.

Take out engine, trans, front and rear suspension etc. Leave the electrical system for the buzzards. Convert the EFI to Megasquirt.

Presto, a 375HP V12 hot rod. If you really wanted to be cute you could put some Lincoln emblems on the engine.
