I have a 1937 Plymouth with a straight six and 3 speed ******. It ran and drove two weeks ago and last week when my dad went to move it, he couldn't get it to go into gear. yesterday i got home from college and tried. I tried moving it with the clutch in car off, car on, and car on with clutch out to see if i could grind it a little. I was pushing so hard every direction that the whole engine was moving. I was afraid if i pushed any harder it would break the shifter in half, it is a floor shifter. I have never been into the transmission, as far as i can tell it is the original one. Any suggestions or theories would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, Austin

Did you have enough gear oil in it? It sounds like you need to pull the top off and have a look.....

Pull the top cover/shifter off the trans. If it worked two weeks ago 99% sure the problem is in the top cover, broken interlock parts etc. Yanking that hard on the shift lever you just might have made it worse, brute force is not the answer.
