Hello all, welcome to the start of my journey. I have dove into the deep end and purchased a 37 USA 5 window coupe here in Australia. It’s just a steel shell really and will be a long term project of mine.

I have wanted a 35 5 window for years now. I am 36 years of age and don’t know a stack about them… this 37 came up at a good price and I snapped it up..

the previous owner tells me a USA 37 coupe body has a shorter cabin and longer end than an Aus coupe.

I will have to do my research so here is where I am.

I hope to one day put a staunch naturally aspirated 351.

Sorry for my spelling there. Edit: staunch

  4. Heres a Aussie Coupe taken out of a 1967 edition of Australian CustomRodder. The rear side window does look longer than your U.S.A. coupe. btw, welcome and a damn solid project you have there. If i remember correctly in Oz the coupe was named Club Coupe.

@34 GAZ is correct. Here in Australia we only got Club Coupes which are the short -arsed version while in the USA they had both Club Coupes and what you've got which I think is known as a Business Coupe. The Business Coupe has a much nicer profile than the Club Coupe.

Your coupe is sometimes referred to in the USA as a "short door" coupe, with the "long door" coupe being the club coupe like Australia got. Just in case you hear that term. It's not an official thing, just a slang term.

Good looking car, fairly rare even here, has to be incredibly rare in Australia. A worthy project.

You can post pictures directly to the message board with the "upload file" button right next to the bright blue "post reply" button, it'll make them larger and easier to see.

Post updates and questions as you go, these are well known cars if you run into issues.

Is it possible the two differences are a Business Coupe with no back seat, and a Passenger coupe with a back seat?

That looks like really solid raw material for a build. '37s were under appreciated here for a long time, but as the supply of '36s and '40s has dwindled they have become more popular and are actually very good looking cars.

  11. Here in Oz the only Ford Coupe we got in 1937/38 was the short arsed "Club Coupe" as shown in the Custom Rodder magazine article, same basic lower body shell was also used in 37/38 for the Ford Roadsters then the short arse end was used again by Ford Oz in the 1939 and 1940 Oz Ford Roadsters and Convertibles....see the attached pic of the 1 of 20, 1940 Ford GENUINE Roadsters made by Ford.......note the side curtain studs along the top edge of the door and the "short arse".....owned by the same guy, Cliff Wiles a good mate, since the early 1970's and still used regularly.
For 1939 & 1940 Oz Ford had NO "normal" coupes, instead making what became known here in oz as "Slopers" for 1939 and 1940.........andyd
