As indicated in a thread on the message board (Saved: 38 Buick Special) the coupe was sitting for the past 8 years in a guys storage building. He realized he was never going to do anything with it again and told a mutual friend who I also knew that he would like to sell it. While I have enough projects on hand, I figured this would be a great car for another HAMBER so I bought it, got it running again and am putting up for sale. The body is solid. One apparent repaint which is good. Chrome is good (see back bumper where I polished right half). Minimal surface rust on a couple of spots on the floorboard. Engine is a 248 straight eight with three speed manual on the floor. I cleaned the spark plugs, kerosene in the cylinders overnight, fresh gas and a "new" battery and it fired right up. Idles with 35-40 lbs. of oil pressure. The clutch mechanism seems to be fine. The car has been converted to 12 volt. It has new quarter window gl*** and maybe all gl*** given that all the rubber/gl*** channels have been replaced as well as the door seals. The steering wheel has been refurbished, the door and window handles re-chromed, the fender welt has been replaced, and the parking light lenses and tail light bezels are new. I have new rubber for both the front and rear fender inserts where the bumper brackets exit. While the car runs fine, I would probably rewire it if I kept it. The radiator does leak and needs to be repaired. There is surface rust on the frame. And the interior needs work. I do have the original radio. If you are interested and have questions it is best if you call me. Cell: 765-577-0364. I am pretty firm on the price of $7,800. Depending on distance, delivery might be possible for what it costs.
People have been asking for some additional pictures so here are a couple more. Refurbished steering wheel I do have a clean Indiana ***le in my name and will sign a bill of sale if that is needed in your state.
