Sorry I'm new at trying to post & reply. I have a 1938 Chevy Pickup that I needed help with on a cowl/hood lace install and a fellow member came to my rescue. He said the 1/8" deep by 3/16" wide groove that is in the cowl panel underneath the lacing is for the wire that's in the lacing to run in to. This cowl lace is the type with the wire embedded in it for fastening purposes. You first install the lace by fastening the wire at both ends. In the upper side of the cowl panel there is a indentation that a "j" hook protrudes thru the lace hooking the wire then goes thru the cowl in that indentation with a washer and a nut . As you tighten the "j" hook it in turn tightens the lace up so you won't need any adhesive for this procedure. I hope this helps someone as this info has helped me and I also hope that I described this info in such a way that you could understand this method of a cowl/hood lace installation. Much thanks goes out to "tb33anda3rd" for his wisdom on this matter ,Thanks again
