pictured is a wing from my 38 chevy pu.at the back of the wing there were 3 rivets in the holes.they were loose whatever they were holding is long gone,my question is what should be there thanx in advance
My 37 Chevy cars and trucks had similar looking front fenders. The fender welting was sometimes held on with rivets. There was also a louvered inner panel that I seem to remember being riveted to the fenders.
you could well be right I will offer up the new fender welt tomorrow and report back ,.many thanx for the reply.dont know of another 37-38 over here that I can compare with.i have removed the inner fenders for a while to repair them.they were riveted on but ill bolt them up next time using stainless bolts and locknuts
yes it is for fender welt. it needs to be held to the fender because the fender doesn't bolt to the cowl, so it is not "pinched", in place like it is at the grill shell. they designed it that way because when used as a truck, loaded, on rough surfaces the body/frame will flex and twist. if the fender was bolted to the cowl it would tear it apart.
thanx fellas.could I ask you guys a question re the inner wing andgrill shell junction.there are 3 holes at the front of the inner wing.what is supposed to go there.i made up some brackets and bolted some rubber strips either side of the wing a kinda flexible joint.am I in the right ball park
