can anyone tell me the height of the stock seat in 38 chevy pu.im looking for the height of the seatbase padding at its highest point from the floor thanx
Patrick Travers said he was from cork and his brother was a fireman? I tossed my 1938 chevy pu seat i can ask the guy in the nxt county if he still has a stock seat. (bttt)
Scroll down to page 17 on this pfd. There is a good diagram of the seat and cab measurements. http://www.gmheritagecenter.com/doc...its/Chevrolet-Trucks/1938-Chevrolet-Truck.pdf That page is full of info on your truck when you scroll down through it.
If you have the original cab interior panels in the truck, the top of the seat back hooks up under the lip of the back panel.... the upper panel is just above the horizontal cab back support..... I have the original seats for mine in the rafters and can measure if you need....
thanx got the measurements fron mr 48 chevy.any chance of a picture of your floor showing your foot controls in relation to the steering column
i think the solution to my problem involves raising the seat base .its currently 14 inches from the floor to the front of the seat.also i will adjust the angle of the back of the seat to move that back a little.the top of the back of the seat is back as far as it can go.maybe slice a little from the padding in the back of the seat to get me sitting back a little more.every little bit will help.my brake set up is a 90 degree under dash unit from kugelthe brake lever is on the left hand side of the column but close to it i will mount the pad as far to the right as i can on the lever.my column is up out of the way. next i will moumt the throttle farther towards the centre of the truck.im running an auto so only need two pedals.last but not least i think raising the floor with some 3/4 ply.would raise my knees a little and put my ankle at a more favourable angle.some good music , a couple of beers, and a sit in the cab could sort it all out. over n out nunattax
When I built my truck I fabbed/used a frame mounted brake/MC ***embly to keep it off the firewall.... then ran my brake pedal up through the floors in the original floor hole......
i didnt want water coming in around the pedals so i used fire wall mounted pedal with m/cylinder and servo under dash the vent as things standthe vent and windscreen winder ***embly are functioning.howabouta pic of your throttle pedal ***embly.now that i think of it i never had pedals or the plate around the pedals and column.
If your not too concerned about keeping the stock appearance then a third seat from a mopar minivan from the late 90's early 2000's fits nicely. I put one in a 37 PU I built a while back. They're the right width and the back is thinner making for more leg room. I cut a piece of 3/4 plywood to fit the seat base then mounted the seat to that. Sits a little lower also and at over 6' I needed some head room.
X2 on mine. My upholsterer can fab a comfortable seat also to fit my ****.Do not even consider a glide. The most uncomfortable POS I ever sat in and a waste of $600. The foam kit is a total waste as well. My 2 pesos.
mopar minivans are thin on the ground over here.i used the backseat from a seat ibiza(vw golf).fits ok just need to fine tune it a little.i didnt think the cab was so tight.how do guys with chopped model a s cope?.i am keeping it stock looking inside and out with a few updates but looking fairly origional to the untrained eye.stock dash n gauges , handbrake ,column , column shifter to be added once its running , ,seat base.seat to b recovered traditional ,rallye steel wheels nothing flash ,just got a pair of stock taillights no extra chtome , stealth model
i am planning on upholstery by neil tadmann well known in the uk rod scene ,spoke to him a good while back but thought id b finished by now.i take it your truck is on the road now.what way did your seat and pedals work out .id love to see some more photos of your build ,looks great in your profile
Have the cab back off my truck for a strip and repaint. Had primer shrinkage problem. I underestimated the tightness of the cab & sold my riser and stock seat. I Installed the slider Glide on a steel 1 " tubing frame to keep it up out of the well under the front seat cushion. Total WASTE of time, $, and cab room. If I had kept the seat riser, my upholsterer could have made a custom seat out of plywood and high density foam and created a more comfortable leaned back position and max leg room. The floor mounted brake pedal is clean but creates awkward position for me even with the arc shortened. Tunnel for 700r4 makes throttle and pedal placement closer than stock. I used a lime works column and shifter and a stock 18" pontiac wheel. I moved the gauges and column over in the dash to center with where I sit. (The gauges are off center from the factory, the column off center because of my carc***) Not as tight as my 34 ford pickup but not a sedan either !
i kept the seat riser i like it and felt it puts a strength in the cab,so it stayed.just went to the garage to take a few pics but the cameras dead.on charge now.i want to post some pics so we are on the same page.thanks armadillo
i spent some time in the garage today and took some pics i had made a riser/adapter that was 3 1/2 inch high to give me 20 inches high at the highest point of the base.stock height approx 18 inch.i reduced the timber riser by 1 3/4 to give me 18 approx .the seat has a linkage that allowed the front of the seat to rise up and forward to allow access to storage and the battery under the seat
I am a little late to help, but you did what i was going to suggest. Make it a bit higher and add more height to the front. On my old 37 Chevy pickup, I used the stock seat and raised the seat front so the seat supported under your thighs better. I think it was about 4 inches in front and none in back. When it was flatter, all the weight was on your ****. I also took the seat back apart and made the top thinner by modifying the springs. This also enabled me to lean back more, probably took about 2 inches out at the top and none at the bottom. Between both of these changes, it went from a 30 minute need to get out and stretch, to can sit there and ride as long as fuel and bladder can handle.
i stayed away from the truck all week and came back for a fresh look tonite.i had replaced the rear cab reinforcment with one made from 1 inch box.looked it over and think i can get the seat back a little..by cutting a little from the edge box i will turn them into angle iron which will alloy the reinforcment to fit the curvature of the cab better.it was only tacked in and shud come out easy .i reckon with the seat lowered i can trim the top brackets to move it back some more and taking a 1/2 inch from the padding could find me 1 1/2 in total .this would make things a lot better.tried taking photos but flash not flashing tonite garage too bright ?
