Will the 38 delux front sheetmetal fit a 38 standard? Found a sedan and was wondering if the stuff would work on my coupe.
I believe the cowl is different on the deluxe cars versus your standard... Don't think it will happen.
The 38 Standard or 37 sheet metal should work. Most any thing Ford from '35 to '40 can be made to work if you have the skills and a welder though.
Yes it will fit. The 37-38 bodies are the same, fenders etc are different. You can put 37,38 std or 38 deluxe on any of the bodies. The 39 std,39 deluxe or 40 front sheetmetal will fit but the trunk is different. You will need everything from the cowl forward. The deluxe has a chrome strip along the body and I think the std does not. The door strips should be easy to find but the quarter strip will be hard to come by. Coupe and convertible chrome strips are the same.
While 37-38 bodies are the same there is one difference at the cowl sides. The Std and Dlx fenders are different, deluxe fenders will not fit a standard cowl. You have been advised of this fact before. Both the Std and Dlx have stainless steel body line strips, they are placed higher or lower depending on which model you have. As stated above the quarter strips are hard to come by, I have some information buried very deep in my archive about someone who will make custom strips (I suspect it would be a very expensive proposition). I suggest you do some research, there is an abundance of information available on-line and in print, the EFV8 Club of America is an absolute treasure trove, in particular the 38-39 Ford book.
Firewall is the same but the captive nuts are in a different position, one model has the moulding above the belt line, the other below. There is a 38 coupe moulding on u.s. ebay at the moment.in[ 38 ford coupe]
I have decide to make my 38 standard a 37 and use the frame and every thing else under it for my coupe. Allready has juice brakes. And use the roof to patch mine and use a few other parts.
