Heres pics of my progress over the weekend First off I wana thank GREG [36threewindow] on the hamb for the suprise I got in the mail... He offered some machined bungs for the end of the bones... not only did he send that but the tie rod end, machined bolt and bracket for the chassis???? DUDE, I owe you BIG, thanks so very much!!!!! So I welded ongregs nicely machined bung and then ground it all up so you cant see his handy work... but its burned in DEEP and i polished out the weld heres a look see.... PIC ONE
I also worked on fileing down my welds on the tire slashers and polished this bone to 180... CLeaned up my spindles and droped the centers out of the finned drums by cutting the rivits.
splattered my spring so I can get it blasted and then im gonna tweak the tips of each spring w/something really SPECIAL, you'll have to wait and see I'm gonna use this spring in the back.
took the backing plates apart in all its components and dropped that and the spring off to get sandblasted this week. A QUESTION? How much machineing is required to fit the 40 ford backing plates to the aluminum drums?
Dude I don't think that spring is going to work. I think it's too wide. You need a spring that's made to go on top of the axle and some perches to mount it there. Call Posies, I think they make a "HollyWood Tuck" spring that will be perfect for you. Speedway will have perches. Looks nice though.
Can you effectively use '40 brakes with Buick drums at all? I thought you needed the bigger Lincoln style brakes. Hope I'm wrong here.
the lincon and the ford are both 12" brakes... you cant use the f-100 b/c they are 11" brakes... the only difference on the backing plates is the offset.... the lincolns wont require the buick drums to be machined.
Yep, that spring on the back. Yeah, I have 40 brakes/ Buick drums on my roadster. The buick drums need to be machined where the edge of the backing plate hits them. The ford hubs need to be installed on the drum first and the backing plate installed on the spindle. Then the back edge of the drum needs to be relieved enough for it to go all the way onto the spindle without rubbing on the backing plate.
cool, thanks bleed, thats what i figured when i mocked it all up. Rockys gonna send me the hubs were doing some horse tradeing, I understand the machineing on that end... looks like ill have to take a trip over to visit CAS muhaahhaha !!! should I bring the file paper and guide coat and trade off some work on the fibertub[tm]???
Teh picture with the teh whole assembly on the ground looks wicked. The windcatchers (tm) on your bones look better than before. Is there a space on your axle in the middle? Looks good. also i got a new shirt...i will send you a pic of it..got a lot of attention at teh car show that i went to on sat. tok
toke, theres no space, just a shadow... Dude abelugo sent me a couple vondrunk t's... they're funny as hell... the have a bottle w/ xxx's and wings on the back. i missed yer calls this weekend. Heres the rear fender abe sent me, its just laying on the tire so it looks funny but you get the idea.... talk to ya later homie,
